The very people whose job is to protect society will deceive people to make illegal money. The politicians that society elects are no better than the corrupt police officers when he or she takes payoffs from organized crime group. Television programs have made me think about organized crime groups as only large groups that make big money. The neighborhood gang is an organized crime group that disrupts the neighborhood and has no respect for members of the community. Movies like American Gangster made me more interested in learning about organized crime groups.
maintained a regional monopoly over crack cocaine within the territorial domain of the gang by having his men at every possible crack dealing corner, and he invested a good amount into making his community satisfied with their gang, because a rebellious community is something that they cannot afford to have. They also made their drug controlled area known by other gangs, and if the other gangs dared to deal drugs in their area, there would be
In the year of 1921, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, were convicted of robbery and murder. Although the arguments brought against them were mostly disproven in court, the fact that the two men were known radicals, prejudiced the judge and jury against them. It didn’t help that their trial took place during the height of the Red Scare. On April 9, 1927, Sacco and Vanzetti's final appeal was declined, and the two were sentenced to death. The most prominent and respectable critic of the trial was known to be Felix Frankfurter, a professor at Harvard Law School.
The first federal agent to infiltrate the inner circle of the outlaw Hells Angels Motorcycle Club is the insides story of the twenty-one-month operation that almost cost him his family, his sanity, and his life. He thought that undercover work was a glamorous life just as seen on TVs and movies. Jay as an undercover agent relates in the story that he did everything he was told to accomplish goals. To be able to perform this job Jay had to put his moral and feeling at side to keep working in the RICO case. He knew this organization was very dangerous to be of, but still did.
What could have been a good life for him and his family spiraled out of control and he was evidently caught by the Feds and arrested. He was offered a deal to serve a short amount of prison time if he turned on his lifelong friends and cohorts. He agreed to this deal and was also put into protective custody after all the trials of all the mobsters he turned in and “ratted” on were over. Henry Hill’s loyalty to the Mob was gone and he claimed he made this decision to save his family but as most people surmised, his disloyalty to the people who he had known all his life, was for his own self interest. “Philosophers typically use self-interest in the generic sense to refer to happiness, well being, flourishing or as I shall say; what one’s life goes best for one” (Philosophy,
Force of Evil It seems difficult enough for Joe Morse to defend a client whom is a powerful gangster but it’s even more surprising when the lawyer joins hands and becomes partners with him. When a lawyer who is familiar with law crosses that ethical line with his gangster client, Ben Tucker then trouble is ahead. The two got a scheme to shut down all the illegal banks in the city, and buy up the ones they want. Joe has an older brother, Leo, a man with heart trouble; Knowing that Leo, an essentially honest man in a dishonest business, will resist joining the syndicate, Joe goes to visit his brother but Leo denounces the proposed alliance with Tucker, then excoriates his brother's lack of principles and reminds him of the sacrifices that he has made to put him through law school. The trouble is, Leo is happy with his small, if not quite ethical, business.
Jean Valjean, the hero of Victor Hugo’s work Les Miserables, is an ex-convict who is living under a false name and wanted for a crime commited many years ago. He is wanted for robbery, but he is actually wanted for breaking his parole. If he is found he would be sent to the galleys for the rest of his life. Jean Valjean is a good man though and if he got caught he really doesn’t deserved to be punished. Jean Valjean has made a man of himself in the town he lives in, becoming mayor and a public benefactor.
