Assignment 3 Dhaneshwar Khemraj 1. Conventional wisdom is knowledge that experts in a specific work field possess. These experts help those in need, they use their knowledge to guide you through certain situations. Journalists and experts are the architects of much conventional wisdom(as said in “Freakanomics”). The organizational structure of the Black Disciples street gang was very similar to the organizational structure most businesses, in the way that there are different levels of power and a large demand for a job/position. At the top of the ladder there are the big owners/leaders of the gang, who don’t do much but just sit back and get all the riches, then under them are the individuals who control the even lower level members/workers. All the way to the bottom are the jobs that are easy to get, you would need to make your way up to the top, but there are also many others out there that are striving for the same thing. This is very much like a successful business. 6. Four years of financial records of the Black Disciples street gang found their way into the hand of a University of Chicago graduate student because one of the gangs second highest member feared that he would soon be killed, therefore he figured that the financial records may help the next generation in some way or another. 7. J.T. maintained a regional monopoly over crack cocaine within the territorial domain of the gang by having his men at every possible crack dealing corner, and he invested a good amount into making his community satisfied with their gang, because a rebellious community is something that they cannot afford to have.
