Although some stepparent-child bonds become extremely strong, the hurt, uncertainty and hesitation that many experience is undeniable. This awkward stage may even develop into full fledged animosity especially if a child feels that a potential stepparent is trying to replace a biological parent. Stepparents and their legal stepchildren may indeed experience many of the broad stages of interpersonal relationships, but the unique circumstances of remariage complicate every aspect of the process. The introduction between a child and a potential stepparent is different from many other relationships, because it may make the child feel that the situation
Some individuals, such as those with developmental disabilities, may not be given the same opportunities as typical individuals. Due to this variation these individuals require services and programs to help them learn necessary life skills. These services and programs provide an individual with developmental disabilities the necessary competencies to acquire secure attachments with their caregivers and maintain relationships throughout life. Research on Attachment Theory Through current research, attachment theory has been determined to be a detrimental part of an individuals’ life experiences and how one develops over time in regards to relationships (Kurth, 2013, p.16). This attachment is generally composed of an affectional bond between a parent and child (Austrian, 2008, p.365).
Abstract Research and Census indicates that single parents experience more stress due to economic, social and financial burdens, compared to traditional parents which included both parents. Many reviews indicate that stress has a major impact on the development of the single parent’s children. However, there are mixed views on the impact of single parent families and child development, coupled with the ability to effectively be a positive or negative role model. The purpose of writing this paper is to see whether single parent families provide adequate support and education, in spite of the stress linked to their households. Whether or not a parent is a positive or negative role model in a child’s life, often depends on the nurturing and nurturing of the individual.
Difficulty Acquiring a Sense of Belonging A sense of belonging is vital for any child, particularly for adoptees. However, “children who cannot be brought up in their families of origin suffer a basic disruption in this sense of membership, of knowing where they belong” (Rastin, 2006, p. 107). Parents and adoptees alike often have “feelings of mismatch . . .
It may cause them to feel they cannot tell people personal feelings due trusting problems (Issaacson 91). Emotional problems can cause issues in relationships due to the lack of emotional communication. One positive trait that occurs in the middle born children is the ability to keep a secret (Powers 93). But being born the middle child can leave an indelible impression on an individual’s style of life (“Birth Order”). An individual’s order of birth has a tremendous effect on how they relate to other people, how they choose their friends, and who they choose as a spouse (Krohn 9).
This may be done subconsciously to replace the parent that is no longer in the picture. 2. This can cause undue stress upon the child/ren. Conclusion I. There are ways to reduce the problems that may arise in
Implementation of education for these children faced many a barrier, mainly their home environment and parents. Piercing the dynamics of an unhealthy family system is an enormous, laborious task met with great resistance. Systems theory postulates, “There are predictable patterns of behavior that emerge in a family system. These repetitive cycles of behavior help maintain the families’ equilibrium and provide clues to the elements about how they should function” (Rosenblatt, 1994). Active resistance against implementing change was evident in the research; many of the families (albeit intentional or unintentional) presented roadblocks for the children’s education.
As a consequence, they can become unsure of their abilities and effectiveness and may experience erosion in their skills and competence (Crutchfield & Borders, 1997). This process runs counter to their ethical responsibility to maintain and increase their competence (American Counseling Association [ACA] 1995, Section C.2.) When school counselors fail to practice competently, this can become a legal problem as well as an ethical issue, because a malpractice lawsuit could result. Supervision can be an effective means of assisting school counselors to maintain and enhance their competence. Supervision can provide opportunities for continuing clinical-skill development, ongoing consultation regarding legal and ethical issues, and a professional support system that can mitigate against stress and burnout.
The conclusion was day care had positive effect on development of peer relationships in 2-3 yr olds. Attachment in 18 month-olds is not affected by temporary separation. The strengths of this was the observations were controlled so the study can easily be replicated which would need to happen to give the scientist more knowledge of this area of day care. However because the situation was artificial the study lacks
