Felicia ortiz Period 3 May 5, 2012 Felishaortiz61@yahoo.com The Holocaust was the systematic, bureaucratic, state sponsored persecution and murder of approximetely six million jews by the nazi regime and its collaborators. Holocaust is a word of Greek origin meaning sacrifice by fire. The nazis, who came to power in germany in January 1933 belived that germans were racially superior and that the jews , deemed inferior were an alien threat to the so called german racial community. During the era of the holocaust , german authorities also targeted other groups because of their perceived racial inferiority. 1933 the jewish population of Europe stood at over nine million.
This plan of persecution and discrimination was carried out in multiple stages. First, various laws, were enacted in Nazi Germany before World War II broke out, in order to remove the Jews from civil society. Next, concentration camps were established. In concentration camps, inmates were forced to perform slave labor until they died of exhaustion or illness from a disease. Third, wherever Germany in Eastern Europe, specialized units called Einsatzgruppen were created to murder Jews and political opponents in mass shootings.
Ghettos were temporary holding places for Jews. The Nazis wanted the concentration camps to exterminate the majority of the Jews, but the ghettos gave more opportunities for natural death (Byers 73). Many Jews were also forced to do labor in the ghettos, which sometimes caused natural death (Byers 73). Most Jews were moved to ghettos in the mid to late 1930’s. Lots of Jews were moved to ghettos in a “single stroke” on February 8, 1940.
Gas chambers were invented as a way to kill Jews and others quickly. The camps started being liberated in 1944, and the last camp was liberated on May 8th, 1945. The War in Darfur began in 2003 in Sudan. People in Darfur were accusing the Sudanese government of causing distress for the non-Arab Sudanese people, and not the Sudanese Arabs. The Darfur Genocide is the mass killing of Darfur men, women, and children in Western Sudan.
The Nazis were a political party in Germany at the time of the Second World War, and they were ruled by a man named Adolf Hitler. Hitler believed that the Great World War was the result of Jews and that they lost the war because of the Jews. Hitler wanted to get rid of anyone who was Jew; this resulted in an event called the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a very unique event. It evolved around 1933 and 1945.
But Germans blamed it for signing the Versailles treaty and for hunger and unemployment. Hitler set up a fascist style party called the Nazi party. Hitler wanted to tear up the Versailles treaty and unite all Germans so they could form a great German empire. He blamed the Jews and the communists for Germany’s troubles and wanted to destroy them. When the Great Depression 1929 forced many factories to close, desperate Germans voted for the Nazi party.
There were so many crematoriums during World War II that the Nazis had developed. The Jews were placed in the crematoriums as a way of disposing them. During the holocaust, there were many gruesome types of deaths that the Nazis inflicted upon the Jews. The most common course of action the Nazi Officers took exterminating the Jewish people were the process of using a poisonous gas (Danish page 2). The Nazis used a type of gas labeled Zyklon B.
By the beginning of 1942 the Germans had close to 9 million Jews under their control (out of a total of 11 million Jews living in Europe and the Soviet Union). And, of course, it was their plan to murder them all. Already, the Einsatzgruppen killing squads had machine-gunned 1.5 million Jews, (as we saw in Part 60) but this was not an efficient way of killing so many more millions of people—it was too messy, too slow, and it wasted too many bullets. So the Germans embarked on a policy called the “Final Solution” which was decided upon at a conference held in Wannsee, near Berlin, on January 20, 1942: “Instead of immigration there is now a further possible solution to which the Fuhrer has already signified his consent. Namely deportation
The Holocaust was a tragic event in history. Approximately 11 million lives were lost because of cruel racial prejudice. During the first half of the 20th century, the Nazi party, led by Adolf Hitler, encouraged prejudice against Jews and other "undesirables" such as gypsies, homosexuals, the mentally ill, or physically disabled;. The Nazis developed a plan to get rid of all the Jews. They decided the most efficient way of doing this was to set up camps to exterminate their existence so they would not pass on their genes and disrupt the Nazis' quest for the perfect race.
In this essay, I will be including and explaining the real facts and figures of what happened in the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a time of devastation and corruption. It was a time of cruelty and it was terribly inhumane. The Holocaust and its supporters tried vainly to make the world perfect, but only succeeded in killing millions. The Nazi’s and Adolph Hitler spoke against Jews even before the start of World War II, they blamed them for
