The Enmore Theatre (The Enmore), located on Enmore Rd, Enmore, is one of the oldest performance venues to still be standing in Sydney. Throughout it’s history, The Enmore has provided Sydney with a varied choice of live performances. Due to gentrification of the surrounding suburbs in the 1990s, The Enmore has had to capitalize on the emerging “alternative” markets that have developed within these new demographics as well as adapt to a broader audience as gentrification pulled wealthier residents into the area in the 2000s. Newtown (the adjoining suburb), especially, has a reputation as the bohemian, alt-culture centre and this has influenced the type of image The Enmore has attempted to create along with the performance schedule and type of…show more content…
They manage this balancing act by bringing in acts that are popular to a certain demographic but which also could appeal to a wider audience who appreciate quality of a genre over the genre itself. Animal Collective are a perfect example of a band that play along this line and use The Enmore to their full advantage during their performances.
