Historical Inaccuracies In The Patriot

“Why should I trade one tyrant 3000 miles away for 3000 tyrants one mile away?” (The Patriot, DVD) an interesting phrase from the Revolutionary War movie The Patriot said by Benjamin Martin starring Mel Gibson who was stating in South Carolina assembly. The audience that watched the movie, considered it as a secondary source. It is considered so because The Patriot is historically inaccurate in the depiction of how the wars were executed, the dramas created between scenes, and anachronism errors in the movie. There have been wars during the American Revolution, both large-scale wars causing many casualties or even small-scaled wars in small towns, which are shown in this movie. What seemingly are insignificant, were considered really serious. Therefore to conclude, creating historical-based movies with dozens of inaccuracies is inappropriate, especially for an educational tool.
