Frankenstein/Enlightenment In the book Frankenstein the author Mary Shelly names and points out some of the problems of the Enlightenment. This was a time where science and religion were being shaped and exposed to what they could accomplish and fail. One of the Enlightenment scientists who wanted to discover some of the secrets of life was talked about by Shelly and how through his time of research it did nothing but come back to hurt him an make him look bad. Shelly’s writings break down events from the Enlightenment in which they occurred but in a way where certain things were being found that a man shouldn’t have known. Just like Victor creating the monster and the conflict they had with one another, it’s a problem we will try time and time again to find out but it’s something that was never intended to be found out. Once the monster was created the man had no idea what to do with it or how to handle the situation. God knew what he was doing and that’s why it’s his power and for no one else to lay their hands on, Victor found out the hard way. Running away is never going to solve a problem if anything it will cause more. Victor’s action to run away caused William’s death and made Justine look like the killer when the evidence was planted from the blood. I see it as Victor was never going to be truly happy because there was so much he really didn’t know and could not handle the whole situation. People during the Enlightenment tried to handle many things on their own but certain things should just not be touched or you will find out the hard way. It was like finding a million dollars in the street and keeping it thinking no one would ever trace back to finding you because it was something that huge. When Shelly is trying to put out the problems of the Enlightenment such as individual’s to know things that are unknown, Victor takes the spotlight when he is messing with life and death. By showing that everyone has some evil in them it shows that some parts of the Enlightenment could be used against people. The collapse of the Enlightenment thinkers was on the verge when people continued to have reasoning for things weather they were right or wrong. I see this novel as a human and a monster who just both want to be loved in the wrong
