4A. The topic that i chose for my paper was of Civilization vs. Savagery in The Lord of the Flies. Examples can be found throughout the book and often reflect our own society. some problems that arise from the theme i chose. In the novel, the boys are at an age where they are unaware of how things are to be run in a community, so this causes split parties. Golden uses the ideas of civilization and Savagery to describe innate evil in human nature. Though it may be obvious that order is superior over chaos for a society to be successful. 4B. 1. Who: Ralph and Jack 2. What: Fight for control of island community When: During WWII Where: Unknown Island Why: both boys want control of community in order to survive How: Everyone is left alone with no rules and infinite amount of freedom. therefore they have conflicting ways of control. 4C. The Subject of Order vs Chaos is somewhat of a cliche topic found in everything. It can be compared to good vs evil. Ralph represents the good in the world and Jack represents evil. With this topic, Golding describes the idea that all humans are inherently evil, by portraying evil actions done by Jack and his followers. Chaos and savagery come as a result of men trying to find pleasure without making sacrifices. Order are situations in which humans are forced to suppress their instincts and follow rules to attain their goals. 4D. The subject ive chosen is sort of a broad idea that can be grasped by looking deeper into the idea. By looking at the fact that Golding is trying to explain that all humans are evil can tie into the Chaos on the island. This can change some important aspects of the overarching theme of the novel. Golding could also be trying to explain that there is always good and evil in our world.
