A unique way of text messaging on a phone is that the text message can be quickly transmitted to another person without taking up a large amount of time. Text messaging is also private. People will not be able to eavesdrop on the conversation. However, text messaging has been a major problem with students texting in class interfering with the disruption of their learning.

Over the years students have been required to take a test that will evaluate them on how well they do. The FCAT is given to obtain an insight on how much students are learning on three main subjects, science, reading, and math every year. Despite the benefits teachers and schools obtain, standardized testing like the FCAT is not effective in evaluating student’s performance because not all students learn at the same level, they fall under pressure, and they are being taught just for the test which prevents from learning skills that are yet to be learned.
The Literacy Argument In the age of text messaging, where words are reduced to nonstandard abbreviations and symbols, many people question the future of literacy. But is text messaging literacy's new study guide, a new way to practice our reading and writing skills? According to a study done by the Pew Internet and the American Life Project, teens on average send sixty text messages a day. When we break this down that's approximately a text every twelve minuets they spend awake. So with this rapid rise in text messaging and it now being our new means of communication, is it hurting literacy in teens?

She makes the essay seem more like a story, incorporating humorous and nostalgic moments to make the story easy to relate too, therefore, making it more easily understood by readers. By having multiple short paragraphs it keeps the reader interested due to the use of multiple ideas only discussed for a short period of time. Atwood also uses the traits of a personal essay very well to make it seem more like a story, which for whatever reason seem easier to follow for most people in her intended audience (teenagers). Almost every teenager will be able to relate to this text because it is usually around the teen years in a persons life where they have to get their first job. I personally can relate most to the fact that she was very embarrassed on her first day, and found that tasks that seemed simple enough, like using a cash register for example, are in fact very difficult.
She explains how her son’s English teacher with unusual way instead of moving him to front row made him to be more serious about learning and specific English .The result was unbelievable, he finished that class with A grade .First Sherry was shocked when the teacher said “I flunk them” then she realized that would be helpful for her son. There are many styles for teaching which looks not proper for first time then after a while when you understand how that help to improve majority of students grades, you will start to believe that style’s advantage. Chris Street wrote an original research article, “Expository Text and Middle School Students: Some Lessons Learned”, and tells us that middle school students face difficulty reading expository texts because they were not taught how to read in this fashion while in elementary school. While in elementary school, they read short novels and chapter books, whereas, in middle school they are expected to read content area text. According to this article, teachers can help their middle school students overcome reading deficiencies by developing a student’s former knowledge on a subject before reading it. Students should not be given grades and diplomas if they did not learn the necessary information and earn the grade. In this essay I will respond on how I agree with Mary Sherry in “In Praise of the F Word “on how students are hurt later in life First, if student doesn’t learn necessary information in high school he or she will not be able or having a lot off trouble in the after life with college or there new job.
