The Effects of Procrastination Procrastination is usually caused by several factors such as laziness, looking down on work, short of responsibility or self control. When we try to put off our tasks, it means that we intend to think about other things more important than what we should do at the moment. In fact, procrastination provides four main devastating effects on the person who commits it. The immediate effect is poor outcome. It is true when we do something with insufficient time, we will leave many mistakes. For example, last year, I kept delaying my writing assignment until the final week. Finally I made many mistakes and got low score. Another case that happened at the same year was my bad performance in group presentation on the account of lack practicing. Due to procrastination, I not only performed poorly on the stage but also led a bad result to the whole group. The other obvious consequence is a sense of guilt. Simply, if we put off the work, we will blame ourselves for the bad result and think that it is our faults. In accordance with previous example of my writing, I felt regret on the ground that I would have got higher if I had done it immediately. Talking about the group presentation above again, I still felt guilty because of that bad result even though all members in the group did not blame me anything. Another common effect is that this action makes procrastinators miss the opportunities. It is true procrastinators will miss the chance not only to express their true potential but also to gain new experiences.
