Krissy Smith This book is about a nine year old boy named Bruno who, because of his father's job, has to move from Berlin to the coutryside of Poland. In his bedroom window, Bruno sees a fence behind some trees which he sees people in striped pajamas. These people are Jews, and they are in a concentration camp. One day his parents tell Bruno and his sister Gretel that they are going to be homeschooled and have a tutor, so they hire a man named Herr Liszt. Bruno thinks Herr Liszt is a very boring techer. So through all this boredom Bruno wonders what is going on at that concentration camp and why people are dressed in stiped pajamas. One afternoon, he goes exploring, which is his favorite activity, and meets a Jew boy named Shmuel. Bruno thinks this is a strange name but Shmuel tells him that it is very common in the concentration camp. Shmuel and Bruno become friends and Bruno visits him every afternoon to talk. Bruno is told that the people in the striped pajamas are Jews and that he should stay away from them. In the end Bruno and Gretel are told that they are going to move back to Berlin with their mother, but not their father. For the last time, Bruno decides to dress in some striped pajamas and climb under the fence to help Schmuel and his father who went missing in the concentration camp. Both boys are unable to find him. When it begins to rain, Bruno decides he would like to go home, but the Nazis in the are of the camp force the boys to go on a march. Neither Bruno nor Shmuel know where the march is being lead to. Therefore, they are soon crowded into a gas chamber. Bruno is confused but unafraid, in the dark holding hands with Shmuel. They see a light come above them with a man wearing a mask dropping things that look like salt onto the chamber and close the door. Everyone was told to strip of clothing and began coughing.
