A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park is about a 12 year old boy named Tree-ear. He lives with Crane-man under a bridge in Ch'ulp'o with little scrapes of food. When Tree-ear sees a master potter, Min making beautiful pottery. He sneaks in Min's place one day and he accidently breaks a pot. He must repay by working for Min for 9 days.
The main characters are her parents and her. The minor characters are her father’s uncle and a neighbor even thought the neighbor did not show up, author has write it couple times. The story is beginning at Judith immigrate to New Jersey with her parents when author three years old and her brother was only a toddler. She has no memories at first few years. Then the author told the stories like they shopping in the supermarket with her father, having their own television when Judith started first grade, and at New Year’s Eve they dressed up even though her younger brother and be invited to her father’s uncle’s home to celebrate.
On his first day of school, he meets Coach Walski, a football coach. Paul knows he is a good goalie and tries out for the team. Paul learns that he can't make the team because his mom filled out an IEP (individualized education plan) for him because of his vision impairment. Soon after, while Paul is at his school, a part of the school collapses into a sinkhole. Many try to rescue the people who are trapped and fortunately, no one gets seriously injured.
She mashed so hard that the bottom of the jar broke and all the mashed turnips fell to the floor. After three years of going to school she returned home because she felt unhappy and alienated. Eventually she decides to go back to college to get a career, which it displeases her mother. While in college she joins oratorical contests and undoubtedly wins some of those contest. In this one particular victory, while she was giving her oratory speeches, in the audiences she spots a man waving a white flag depicting an Indian Girl making a racist gesture.

He’s always expected that he would eventually go to Yale. However, the deaths of his siblings two years later made his family fortunes go down, since his father took up drinking. By the time he was fourteen, there was no money for private education.
The finally her mom tells her that her dad got arrested because he lost all of her inheritance on a one bet at the racetracks and that was for her to go to cooking school. Groovy is very sad that her dad would do this. She needs to raise money to go to cooking school so she starts selling chocolate covered strawberries at the swallow story where her friend Frankie works. Groovy’s dad calls from jail and tells her she is sorry about losing the money and he will have it back to her before she goes to school. Groovy decides to forgive her dad for losing the money.
Starting with Tom Joad telling a truck driver about how he has gotten parole after killing a man. A massive drought causes the family to lose their crops and not be able to afford their land. When the bank kicks the family out of their house, they decide that they will travel to California in hopes of creating a more financial future. Unfortunately when the family started their move to California the real troubles start. In the beginning Grampa was looking forward to picking the oranges and eating them, but soon Grampa gets cold feet and the family gives him medicine that knocks him unconscious.

It had just rained and during lunch an idea sparked to go create a deep ditch which the school bus could fall through. Their plan worked and the white school couldn’t use the bus for quite some time. Cassie and the boys were rejoicing home.
“A Child Called It” The Book “A Child Called It” ,tells us about Dave Pelzer’s early days, from his birth until his thirteenth year when he was rescued. In the book Dave describes these happy days with situations like when they go away fishing, have picnics in the park and stories about their Christmases which, according to Dave, was fantastic. But life tears the family apart. The father, who is a fireman, works a lot and spends less time with the family. The mother starts drinking and it’s now Dave’s hell begins.
The author is a loving wife and parent who experiences complications in her family relationships because of her husband, John, who is spending less time with her and spending more time at work. As a child, Hope Edelman grew up in suburban New York where her father was always preoccupied with work, thus never spending time with the family just like her husband. The author was seventeen when her mother died of breast cancer causing Edelman great pain. Her mother did everything around the house when she was alive, so her passing caused a lack of discipline with the children and there were no more chores for any of the siblings. Nannies were suddenly walking in through the front door daily.
