English essay Although the destination in a journey is significant, the journey itself is the most important part as an individual is shaped by the experiences and obstacles they encounter. The film, The Blind Side and the novel, The Perks of being a Wallflower both demonstrate how important the journey is. Journeys allow people from different cultures and backgrounds to come together. Journeys allow individuals to change the way they interact with society and they can allow an individual to not only to be transformed but transformative. Journeys allow people from different cultures and backgrounds to come together. People with different cultures or backgrounds are often feared in society, but journeys can provide the experiences needed for people with different cultures and backgrounds to come together. In The Blind Side, upon Michael Ohr’s first visit to Wingate Christian College, his first words are, “White people are crazy.” This establishes Michael’s opinion on white people perhaps caused by lack of experience. Hancock shows using a point of view shot, that Michael is feared by his fellow classmates when he first sits down in the classroom. A point of view shot shows a class mate’s perspective of Michael’s size of his hands and feet in comparison to others around him. Using the point of view shot reinforces the clash of cultures between Michael’s background and the people of Wingate’s background. Experiences throughout a journey can bring together people from different backgrounds. In The perks of being a Wallflower, Charlie meets Patrick and Sam who introduce him to their group of friends. In their group of friends there is a wide variety of different cultures and backgrounds, for example, Mary Elizabeth who is a Buddhist-monk. When Charlie is welcomed into the group Sam says, “Welcome to the island of misfit toys, Charlie.” This line tells us that they are
