Criminals are less likely to commit a crime that they know carries a strict sentence. Crime rates will plummet for this specific crime. With the increasing numbers of inmates, there will also be an increasing number of employment needed to monitor these inmates. This strong sentence also would bring more justice to victims and the families of the victims. Ultimately this will help communities become safer.
The advantage of this system is that the firm’s lawyers quickly become proficient in dealing with the prosecutor and the courtroom work group. Opponents of this system contend that because of the competitive bidding process, the low bidder end up with a caseload that does not provide enough revenue for the support system of secretaries, investigators, and attorneys that is necessary for vigorous defense of all
If the stricter laws were the same throughout the United States, federal and state, it would be a more effective tool to solve crimes in a speedier, more cost effective manner while saving lives and time of everyone involved in the legal system. The Use of DNA in Criminal Investigations An increase in the use of science for the solution of problems has been witnessed in the past two centuries. The significance of these changes often lies on the mindset and openness people have to welcoming new ideas and the judiciousness to see the long-term effects of the changes that could be incorporated in their lives as a result of technological changes. The use of DNA in the analysis of crime and their investigations is one such area. The collection of DNA at time of arrest exists in 25 states, but the United States should adopt this rule in unison because it is cost effective, saves lives and conserves valuable time in the judicial system.
The majority of studies examining incapacitation effects demonstrate a small but positive effect in reducing crime. However, this crime prevention effect is associated with significant increases in prison populations. Crime can be reduced if the career criminals were identified and incapacitated. This selective incapacitation strategy would identify the offenders who were predicted to commit serious crimes at a higher rate so they could be incarcerated for long periods of
These changes will be effective by keeping these offenders behind bars for longer, preventing them from committing the same crime again. I will explain further why this decision will be an effective way to help prevent and deter armed robbery. Armed robber careers can be seen as an ongoing measurement, with specific features varying as more robbery crimes are committed over time. In their early stages as amateurs, criminals incline to be younger and not as much experienced as well as have numerous prior records. In addition, the majority of them tend to rob individuals.
Economic Efficiency of Capital Punishment Economic analysis of law focuses on efficiency and places an emphasis on the fact that people respond to incentives. An economic assumption is that people who commit crimes are still rational and self-interested; they will weigh the expected costs against the benefits when deciding to undertake an illegal activity. The expected costs of a crime are affected by the probability of being caught, the probability of being convicted given detection, and the expected penalty that results from a conviction. Since the death penalty provides a higher cost than alternative punishments, it is expected to generate a larger deterrent effect. Why then is the effectiveness of capital punishment a controversial issue?
Pros and Cons of Free Trade Agreements Free trade agreements promote competition in the business world which is a good thing for most people because it can help lower prices and keep those prices stable. The theory behind free trade is that everyone wins by lifting either all or most tariffs on trade between the participating countries. With the tariffs and duties gone business can operate at a lower cost more efficiently. However a free trade agreement does not always benefit everyone in fact a lot of times participating parties lose big. Jobs move overseas leaving thousands and sometimes millions unemployed.
Why? Because they are getting paid the rates they want and they are hired to get the criminal the lesser charge as possible. While the criminals with a public defender, because they cannot afford a private attorney just get represented because they have to. “Most people agreed that ‘it would be easy to get a lawyer if I needed one,’ while at the same time expressing the view that ‘it costs
The prosecutors work load is also reduced as a result of a plea bargain and thus they are accorded a chance to concentrate on other cases that can not be settled through plea bargaining. Besides the prosecutor, the judge also reaps the benefit of plea bargaining. This is because plea bargaining ensures speedy conclusion of cases that would have otherwise taken long to conclude hence ensuring movement of the system as a whole. Finally, it helps in reducing congestion in jails and prisons as a result of some of the defendants receiving suspended sentences from their plea bargains (McConnell, Michael & Chester,
An estimated 1,663,582 arrests were issued in 2009 alone, this is an extreme amount of arrests, and it’s aiding to the overcrowding of jails. If Marijuana were to be legalized, these 1,663,582 jail cells would be open to inmates who deserve to be there. Another benefit to the jails is that with fewer inmates, they could control the populations easier, and have less trouble keeping peace amongst prisoners. Along with reducing inmate numbers, the legalization would also help free up time for attorneys and court appointed lawyers to help with larger cases. This intern will reduce the time for a prisoner to go through the judicial system, most inmates spend a good deal of time waiting for their court appearance, if they are innocent then this conflicts with their work and life.
