Animated Ignorance A movie that contain: violence, nudity, degrading name calling, graphic depiction of gruesome facial features and of course suggested adult langue; might give off the impression of an adult movie. Maybe even something that is rated PG-13. It is not however. These are things that I noted when watching my daughter’s favorite cartoon character. The writer Stephen Hillenburg; is famous for a cartoon I watched when I was a teenager. It had a lot of the same graphics and content, but I was older and could decipher right from wrong. I believe however, that he is targeting the wrong audience when it comes to his show that is aired now. This show is loved by a very diverse age group from 3 to 50, in some cases. If an adult is asked who this is they can sing the theme song and maybe even give information about one or two of their favorite scenes. If a toddler is shown a picture and asked who this character is that I’m talking about, they will excitedly proclaim his name and start listing all the movies or other paraphilia that they own. I think from this point on I will be a lot more selective as to what my daughter is subjected to. Nickelodeon is one of the channels my daughter asks to watch on a daily bases. I figured it is a child’s television program channel, so there should be no harm in letting her watch it. I was shocked to see that I had been sadly mistaken. I sat down and watched SpongeBob Squarepants the movie with her. This is not the first time I have done this, but I believe it is the first time I have looked at it from her perspective. There is nothing special or spectacular about the characters or the animation of this show. It is based underwater and the main figure is a sponge, named SpongeBob. I am not certain how old he is. He lives alone and has a job, but yet all through the movie is called a kid. SpongeBob has a best friend
