Part I: Group Development: The group is in the Mutual Acceptance stage of group development. The situation in this case review shows and explains this stage as testing each other and some members being defensive, or quibbling. As we look into some of the issues in this case review, I refer specifically to the issue of the team in this scenario or case study. Towards the beginning we see the team initially forming, they are motivated and being productive for the most part. The direction or team dynamics seem to be focused on Control and Organization. But as the team moves forward in its development, issues arise in the area of Mutual Acceptance. This evaluation tends to move forward at first, however with the issues that present the team in the week 5 timeframe, we see setbacks to some extent. Part II: Problem Identification: Christine is attempting to focus and evaluate, write and prepare her presentation part, and distractions with Mike assuming the team members would not include him in meetings can be distracting to the whole part of the group’s overall performance. With this problem stated, we truly understand this is not an underlying issue. Mike has been working nights and unable to attend meetings in coordinating this group project. Christine on the other hand, is struggling to work on her own work to develop a clear plan for the presentation due to issues with Mike. According to the Case Study, we can see that it was explicitly stated by Sandra Thiel, that if at any time there are problems within a team, to discuss and develop solutions to resolve them. In understanding these concerns, knowing there is a mediator in any group problem is the first step to successful group dynamics and growth. A mediator in this case is essential in protecting dynamics and Sandra Thiel explained explicitly she was to be the mediator in cases as stated. In
