Courses include group work so that you can: • share ideas and experience • learn from and help each other • find alternative ways of solving problems • draw on everyone’s strengths & experiences • enhance the quality of output • develop essential team working skills needed for use throughout your career. What makes a group effective? For group work to be effective you need to need to be able to understand how groups work; evaluate the skills, in other words the strengths and weaknesses of individuals and use this to the best advantage of the group; and be able to plan and manage tasks.
Refocusing on your thinking and knowledge to generate new ideas. Look at your behaviour, learning needs and your judgement. Why is reflective practice important? Reflective practice is important for you to focus on how you interact with your colleagues, customers and the each environment that you will be in. It’s an impact on yourself learning and knowledge you have gained.
Self reflection is also knowing that I may need professional development in an area. This is needed so that I can be able to show unconditional positive regard, a non judgemental attitude and to be able to show empathy. Therefore it is important that I take time out to reflect in my performance and development. Self awareness can also be done in supervision or through peers. It helps to keep one’s mind fresh and with new ideas on how to deal with issues which I face during my sessions with a client.
1.1 Explain what reflective practice is Reflective practice is a process to help evaluate your work. It provides opportunities to learn from your experience and develop your working practice. It is both a tool to help you analyze specific interactions or incidents that have occurred at work, as well as a method of working in the moment that is mindful and self-aware. 1.2 Explain the importance of reflective practice in continuously improving the quality of service provided Reflecting on your practice is important as it can help you to focus on what you have done well and identify areas you may need to improve I.e. It may make you consider new approaches or make you consider learning more or beginning new courses in relevant subjects.
1.2 Explain how communication affects relationships in adult social care settings. In relationships, the building of trust and understanding between people make it easier to get things done. Working as part of a team, you have to work alongside colleagues and share a workload. If there are good relationships, then working becomes easier because people will co-operate and trust develops. The key relationships are with the people I support.

For example * Colleagues – Communicating with colleagues is very important. Having a good relationship with your colleagues is due to good communications skills. Communication is best achieved through simple planning and control. You need to be able to share thoughts and ideas to help each other to increase the potential of your workplace.

Communication is an essential skill for worker who wants to do well in their setting; this communication can be between adults or children. 1.2 Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of own work. Communicating together involves a two-way sharing of information and helps to develop a common understanding, meaning it is easier for parents, carers and staff to support one another. Effective communication also helps families and staff to build a trusting partnership and develop honest and respectful relationships. When families and staff have a genuine interest in one another, people are able to be open about their thoughts and feelings.

This means focusing on how you interact with colleagues, people you support and the environment. It means thinking about how you could have done something differently, what you did well, what you could have done
To support effective communication in my job I need to ensure that I communicate with people in a way that is most suitable for them. There are several different needs that people have in relation to communication. These are varied and depend on factors which are sensory ability, cultural background, language, self-confidence, level of learning ability or physical ability. It is very important that when communicating with people I do it at the correct level of understanding. Effective written and verbal communication and being able to use a variety of interpersonal techniques promotes strong working relationships which will then lead to a good quality care for my service users.
