By maintaining a good relationship with the parents/carers we will be aware of any problems that may arise with a child and then be able to deal with it appropriately. I have a duty of care to raise any concerns I have with a child to either the Local Safeguarding Board or Police depending on the circumstances as written in my Safeguarding Policy. Protecting children - If equipment is unsafe and I don't deal with it a child could get hurt. * I also carry out daily risk assessments inside & outside my

And to make sure that we preserve the respect and dignity of all that I care for by treating them the way I would like to be treated. Assessment 1 Within your setting you should safeguard and promote children’s welfare, we must take necessary steps to ensure this. We must promote good health of all children within our care and take steps to prevent the spread of infection from others within our care and take appropriate action when they are ill. We must ensure that there are suitable people and staffing levels are appropriate to ensure safety to all children. The premises, environment and equipment must be suitable to cater for the children, these include outdoor and indoor spaces, furniture, equipment and toys and they must be safe and suitable for the children in your care, age/stage appropriate. Your safeguarding/admissions/settling in policies should be kept up to date. It is important for all staff to read all policies and procedures.

Policies like Safeguarding children ensure that the right procedures are in place to protect children. All staff working within the school should be trained on the correct procedures for safeguarding children. Anti-bullying policies are in place in school to ensure the children know that bullying is not acceptable behaviour but a child should feel confident enough to report an incident if one occurs and should know who they can go to within the school to discuss any such situations.
It is important to have a Health and Safety put in place, so the whole school knows what to do if something occurred in the setting, for example a fire drill went off, the children would know the procedure of what to do and wouldn’t feel scared, because they have been taught and shown of what to do in an event of a fire incident. Security arrangements are put into place so children are safe and not in danger. In my setting they have fobs for each member of staff that come into the school and for visitors there is a sign in and out book and a badge is given to them so staff and children know who they are. On my first day of placement I was asked for my CRB and given policies to read, one was a Health and Safety Policy, this was me to understand what the school policies and procedures were is anything

208.1.1 Describe how current Health and Safety legislation, policies and procedures are implemented in the school The key points of this act are to make further provision for securing the health, safety and welfare of persons in the workplace. For protecting others against risks to health or safety in connection with the activities of people at work. To find this information I researched HSE.gov.uk The School promotes Health and Safety for children and staff and others using the school premises. The school always sends a letter to parents to ask if their children have any disabilities, ailments or allergies that we need to know of, inhalers and relevant medication are kept in the school office. There is a strict rule that needs to be followed concerning children being picked up from school and if parents cannot pick their children up, meaning someone else picking them up, the school needs to know to avoid any risks of child abduction.
