As a front runner of this technology, Wal-Mart has recognized how the RFID enabling technology increases retailer’s logistical mission of right product at the right place and time, thus improving SCM efficiency; and increasing sales and profits. Supply Chain Management (SCM) is the logistical management of assets, information, and capital in their movement in a supply chain process between suppliers, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and, ultimately, to the consumer. Businesses look for innovations and advancements in Automatic Identification and Data Capture / Collection (AIDC) techniques and products to enhance their SCM logistical systems and processes. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is an AIDC technique that has attracted significant interest from companies over the past eight years. Considered as “the next big thing for management” (Wyld, 2006), RFID enables business information gathering throughout a company’s value SCM chain to provide critical information for speedy and accurate decision-making.
This essay will therefore attempt to outline regulation and the tensions that occur between de-regulation and re-regulation in order consider how the state’s regulatory policies foster cultural diversity. To discuss this further it will look into multiculturalism and highlight how minority groups try to assert their identity within a culturally diverse society and how governments are being challenged to maintain a national identity. It will then look into the threat of global capitalism and the hegemony of the culture industry to a nation-state’s cultural diversity and consider how state regulations aim to preserve social cohesion. Regulation is a dynamic social construction that produces meanings within society to enable, restrict or constrain social, political and economic activities that affect a given society. It aims to control these interactions during the continuing process of social change.
So, after nearly 15 years, in Jan 2011, the government addressed this issue with the school meals. As stated by the Agriculture Secretary, Tom Vilsack, "Addressing childhood obesity problems are critical for kids' health, future medical costs, and national security, as so many young adults are too heavy to serve in the military" (Goetz, 2012, P. 1). The USDA's (United States Department of Agriculture) proposed rules outlined several requirements for school meals. An article by Nancy Hellmich, in the USA Today, 2012 lists the following guidelines and standards for the requirements of the school meals. Starchy vegetables like corn, potatoes, and green peas are to be decreased to one cup per week.
