Morgan Spurlock- Super size me. During Spurlock’s ‘Super size me’, many different techniques are used throughout to keep the audience interested and are also used to persuade. -Spurlock uses still images at the start of his film, this begins to give the audience an idea on what it’s going to be about, and gives an inside look at what’s going to happen. This is effective because it not only catches the viewer’s attention fast and easy, but manages to give information in an interesting way. -Talking heads are used during the film. An example of this is when Spurlock is visiting the doctors. The significance of this is that it presents facts clearly. This technique also involves the viewer, making them feel as if they were there, which keeps the audiences’ attention. -Expository techniques are used such as interviews with the doctors, which states Spurlock’s argument with authority and gives a lot of information within the interview. -Spurlock also uses direct footage. We see this at the start of the film when a group of children are singing. As they’re singing about fast food places it almost hits the audience as to just how much our lives revolve around unhealthy food. In addition children are the ones singing. The significance of this is that is shows how children are easily influenced. For example, if a song is sang about McDonalds children will begin to remember and like it, and if something isn’t done about obesity and unhealthy lifestyles, they’re going to carry on living that way. -During the film Mise-en-scene is used. An example of this is when a Yale professor is speaking. In the background there are things such as books, this reinforces knowledge and authority, resulting the viewer to take what they’re saying seriously and listen to it. - Titled sections are used throughout, creating a narrative structure.
