Employers do not like to have to tell employees what to do all of the time along with watching over their shoulders to make sure they are doing it. The military trains their employees to be able to motivate themselves to do the daily tasks which are assigned. In some cases, this provides the opportunity to inform your boss that you are available to take on more work. While some employees prefer to prolong the work they have to fill the day, employers prefer employees that go above and beyond to help out. Initiative to pitch in whenever the situations arises also helps.
‘Of Mice and Men’ has many different relationships mentioned, and many different types. There is the marriage of Curly and his wife, as well as the relationship between the men on the ranch. The time the novel is set in has an impact on the relationship as well since Friendship is a strong issue in the novel, and a lack of it. Even Slim finds it "funny how you an' 'im string along together" talking about George and Lennie. The boss thinks George must be "takin' his pay" (Lennie's) because he "never seen one guy take so much trouble for another guy".
Oskar Dudkiewicz English Essay ; I'm going to compare the 2 protagonists named Lady Macbeth from Shakespeare and Curleys wife from Of mice and men . Of Mice and Men’, a novel by John Steinbeck, is set in the 1930's during the great depression and tells a story of friendship, loneliness and aspiration between two wandering farm labourers named Lennie, who is a slow simlpe-minded man and has a passion for petting things especially mice, rabbits and other soft silky things, and George who is small, quick and intelligent, he takes care of Lennie who is innocent of the world and its ways. They are on the run from a town called Weed, where Lennie caused trouble by innocently fondling a girls dress. They have dreams of one day owning a small ranch where they can live and work for themselves. The story then ends when George takes Lennie’s life. They travel to a ranch where they have work, when Lennie and George arrive on the farm they are shown their quarters by Curley’s wife, on one of her ‘looking for Curley’ routines, sees them both and immediately starts flirting with them.
George’s Demand for Friendship Companionship and loneliness are things that everyone experience at least one time or another in their lifetime. In the novella Of Mice and Men, the author John Steinbeck demonstrates the necessity for companionship through the struggles of the characters. George’s life could’ve been improved without Lennie, but his longing for friendship, took on the burden of taking care of Lennie .For example, “I could take my fifty bucks and go into town and get whatever I want…An’ that ain’t the worst. You get in trouble .You do bad things and get in trouble“(Steinbeck 11). George felt responsible for taking care of Lennie because, of his childlike state of mind. George knows that Lennie gets in trouble, but the fact that they have each other is worth the work.
Leading is one of the most important parts of management because this can leave a reputation that either looks good or bad. This is the time where employees should offer suggestions and speak up on any problems that they may have on the job. This is also the time to set goals for employees to meet by a certain period. This gives the manager time enough to challenge those who work under him so that he/ she can get a hint of what assignments should be given to what employees based off how they perform. Controlling is very important because this way everyone is following guidelines and rules along with working as a team rather than
Of Mice and Men The title “Of Mice and Men” is appropriate for this book because in the poem it says “And leave us naught but grief and pain”, and this book will bring you grief and pain at the end. Lennie was a big , not bright fellow. He loved to play with small animals such as mice and puppies etc. George, Lennie’s guider, didn’t like or want Lennie to play with mice cause he know he would kill him with his big hands and try to hide them while they’re dead in his pocket. George had to always look after Lennie because he was always getting into some sort of trouble with things.
Of Mice and Men * Author * John Steinbeck * Main Characters * George is a small man that travels with and cares for Lennie. Although George says how much better his life would be without Lennie, George continues to take care and protects him. * Lennie is a big guy with a mild mental disability and travels with and completely depends on George. He and George have a dream of having their own farm where he can take care of the rabbits but he does not realize his own strength. He often pets soft things and kills them, not realizing it.
The contrast between the ‘girl’ who comes to take the ‘sunlight’ away from the friendship between George and Lennie, and the diplomatic good sense of Slim that instantly recommends him to the reader, even before we actually meet him. Whilst Curley’s wife stands in the doorway Slim comes into the bunkhouse to join the men showing he is apart of their group, yet they are both outsiders. Steinbeck gives Curley’s wife no name Slim however is nicknamed “Slim” (so specific when most of the men are labelled with their last names); these characters are presented as opposites. Slim brings light to the room whilst Curley’s wife brings darkness; they symbolise the themes of good and evil that are portrayed in this book. A metaphor perhaps that the good in the men on the ranch is embedded in them yet all they can see is Curley’s wife – the evil.
