In the text “Me talk pretty one day” the tone is informal. I would call the writer’s tone informal for the reason that he throughout the text is using some random letters, to sort of outline how he feels when the teacher talks to him, and he does not understand her. We have an example to these random letters in the text:” Well you should have been vkkdyo more kdeynfulh.” (p.3 l. 115) Additionally the writer also expresses himself through humor. He uses a very casual language in the text, and also he uses some humorous terms, which makes the text funny and kind of pleasant to read. The writer starts
He had been taught to reserve judgements about other people as if he was to compare them to himself he may misunderstand them. The readers learn more about the narrator in the form of a character as nick caraway reveals his past, education, social knowledge etc. The reader also realises further in the opening chapters that the narrator/character Nick Carraway goes against his words and upbringing in the brief mention of jay Gatsby and he judges him “there was something gorgeous about him”. This therefore gives the readers the impression that nick is a hypocritical character and could possibly be a biased narrator. F Scott FitzGerald presents Nick Carraway as a character and narrator by showing in Nick’s own way that he has come “back from the East last autumn” fed up off his experiences there.
-In nadsat style, addressing the reader with ‘’O my brothers’’ creates a more personal bond with Alex, and their for it is easier for the reader to sympathize with Alex even though he is such a flawed character. -When the violence is shown in the book, more nadsat is used with for example: ‘’to tolchock a chelloveck in the kishkas’’ this being an alienating and distancing the reader and Alex from the violent acts he commits. If the nadsat is purely read for its language it sounds humorous, but often takes a sickening and repulsive turn, that is when you realize what is actually happening. For example: ‘’So he did the strong-man on the devotcha, who was still creech creech crecching away in very horrorshow four-in-a-bar, locking her rookers from the back, while I ripped away at this and that and the other, the others were going haw haw haw still, and real horrorshow groodies they were that then exhibited their pink glazzies, O my brothers, while I untrussed and got ready for the plunge.’’ This sounds quite comical and humorus until its found out that the devotcha (woman) is being raped. In short: -What is the Nadsat language, where is it
Both kinds are wrong, students don’t learn the right way. The bad conditions of boarding schools make education more difficult. In both stories the educational situation was wrong and needed to change. Hard Times is about a school in which there is a professor, Mr. Gradgrind, who doesn’t like personal opinions or anything that is not just facts. There’s a girl, Sissy, who answers right but the teachers don’t like her because she has imagination.
It could be amusing to the audience as it highlights the absurdity of the situation. Also, in the same scene, Frank does not get Rita’s joke about him being named after the quality who is Frank Ness, Eliot’s brother who was the famous ‘Chicago copper’ who caught Al Capone. Frank thought Rita meant T.S Eliot. The audience may feel superior to Frank, as they may understand the joke so this would be amusing to them. Professor Dan Rebellato states that: “we laugh at something because we feel superior to it”.
John sees a serious person as anxious and solemn while humorous person as relaxed, cheerful and dissatisfied. Therefore, Harvey argues that the individual approach humor and asses its value according to their approach to life. Therefore, individual approach to humor is unsuitable because expressing a sense of humor is a social act and how other people are involved in this humor is very essential (Harvey 26). Additionally, intentional humor incorporates the initiator, the audience and the subject of the joke. Therefore, humor is a chancy dealing because its succession relies on the response of the desired audience.
Positive interactions from parents such as questioning, elaborating on word meanings and identifying specific letters, are of great benefit to children. By providing an encouraging environment and interacting positively during book reading, children will be more interested and view reading as a pleasurable experience. As children get older, and are able to start reading by themselves, the above practices should not be forgotten. Rather, different methods should be implemented in order to keep children interested in reading, to expand their knowledge, vocabulary and comprehension and to perhaps give them exposure to books they are not ready to read themselves. As literacy in the early years of schooling is vital for continued school success, the influence a parent’s contribution can have through at-home family literacy practices is
My own child and I are victims of Parental Alienation i.e. Hostile Parenting, so severely that it has destroyed my relationship with my daughter, my only child. It is devastating for the parent that it is happening too. Our society doesn’t know what it is, or what to do about it. The police don’t want to get involved because it is a “domestic issue.” Many family problems are still kept behind closed doors and left for
I used to read more books that talked about the reality I lived in or science fiction. The way they were written it was amazingly interesting for me, like I would spent days and late nights just to get to the end. The opportunity to read showed me that there were so many ways that I could learn both fun and educational faces of the reading field. When I was in the fifth grade I started to write poems inspired from the readings I did. The school principal and later on my English proffesor followed up with me in my career as a good reader.
Although satire is usually meant to be funny, its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit as a weapon. From ancient times satirists have shared a common aim: to expose foolishness in all its guises—vanity, hypocrisy, pedantry, idolatry, bigotry, sentimentality—and to affect reform through such exposure, but as society grew, men came up with different ideologies and ways to perceive life. Most satire is directed at politicians, religious leaders, and others in the public sphere some of who managed to position themselves in a powerful condition, others were left behind in the race to power and commodities; this was the beginning of the separation of social and political classes. It often features characters that represent exaggerated versions of the person or persons being targeted. Satire is based on truth, but depends on irony, wit, and sarcasm to expose weakness and other flaws.
