Some of the reasons why a rights-based approach to health and social care is considered to be best practice are that it supports health and social care staff in meeting their professional ethical obligations; it also improves the decision-making processes and enhances the health and well-being of all service users. The rights base approach also sends a message to society that people with disabilities are first and foremost equal persons with human rights. If an individual was unable to give consent regarding any treatment a best interests decision would be made on behalf of the individual by the individual involved in their immediate care which can be a support worker, social services or doctor. The individual should be given all of the relevant information surrounding the medication or treatment which they require.

The ways that the organizational goals are tied to its ethical principles are the satisfaction of the patient the organization tries to make the patients happy and allows the patients to make his or her own decisions. Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center wants to ensure the patients his or her well-being and the highest quality of care that any facility could provide. Typically, the early adopter will be a customer who, represents true opinion leaders who set examples by their decisions. They are respected customers and are willing to try a new product if it will significantly improve their lifestyle. They need to understand the benefits and will seek out references from other satisfied users before making a purchase (Clark, 2003).
By recognising the centrality of the individual, we empower them and boost their confidence. We will then also able to identify the best ways to help the individual maintain their independence while promoting health and well-being. We will also be able to identify where further help is required and help the individual to use their strengths and abilities for their own benefit. Recognising strengths and abilities also helps build confidence to try new things and to challenge their own disabilities. In my position, it is imperative that I communicate with the Service User, and our Carers, in the correct way, to make sure that the needs of the Service User are understood, and dealt with correctly. When we initially meet with the service user, we discuss their needs and concerns, the level of care required, and the frequency of visits before we formulate a care plan that meets their needs. We have regular meetings with the Service Users and Carers to review plans, and implement any changes needed.
