Along the battle, Banquo and Macbeth encounters the witches. The witches prophesy that Macbeth will be Thane of Cawdor and eventually King of Scotland. He that ideal was skeptical until Duncan's soldier came and thanked him and Banquo for the vicotry in battle and to tell MAcbeth that he was indeed been named Thane of Cawdor. Now, he's uncertain for what he expects if the prophecy is correct. Then road home to his wife and told her what happened.
The witches vanished after the telling of their prophecies to Macbeth and Banquo and leave both men treating their prophecies sceptically until two of Duncan’s general had indeed come to congratulate Macbeth on becoming Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth & Duncan arrange to meet and Macbeth invites King Duncan to Castle Inverness to join himself Macbeth and Lady Macbeth for dinner. Due to this unrestrained burst of ambition, Macbeth turns to darkness and he begins to act on his thoughts even though when Banquo asks if he ever thinks about the witches’ prophecy, he denies it all. Although the prophecy the witches foresee in Macbeth’s future is news to him, he is shocked and astonished because he has already thought of becoming a king in the past. As the play progresses, Macbeth’s duplicity in character comes through; he is indecisive, guilty and he becomes the worst type of traitor because he goes against God by murdering King Duncan. Macbeth is a character who undergoes a transformation; he leaves his cocoon and morphs into a butterfly, an evil butterfly for that matter. Banquo, Macbeth’s character foil, is one great character.
The hired murderers kill Banquo but mistakenly allow Fleance to escape. At a celebratory banquet that night, Macbeth is thrown into a state of horror when the ghost of the murdered Banquo appears at the dining table. Again, his wife tries to strengthen Macbeth, but the strain is clearly beginning to show. The following day, Macbeth returns to the same Witches who initially foretold his destiny. This time, the Witches not only confirm that the sons of Banquo will rule in Scotland, but they also add a new prophecy: Macbeth will be invincible in battle until the time when the forest of Birnam moves towards his stronghold at Dunsinane and until he meets an enemy "not born of woman."
The guards already look guilty with the bloody daggers. Macbeth kills them out of hurt. Duncan’s two sons leave right away, they don’t want to be murdered next. Act III: Banquo is becoming a problem for Macbeth. He suspects Macbeth of the murder of Duncan.
Macbeth’s character continually worsens and by the time they find Lady Macbeth dead he says “I have almost forgot the taste of fears:/The time has been, my senses would have cool’d”(V, v, 10-11). In this quote Macbeth is talking about how he no longer knows what fear feels like, this is an example of his deterioration, he’s become overconfident because he know believes he cannot die to Macudff. Macbeth, after becoming King and plunging further and further into evil, orders for Banquo to be killed, as in the mind of Macbeth, Banquo has gone from his dearest friend to it being that, “There is none but he/ Whose being I fear” (3.1.54-55). At the end of the play, the men he once called his comrades, his countrymen, are the once turned against him. Instead of being surrounded by troops of friends, he is surrounded by troops of enemies (Barnet xxxi). The ones that still did stick by his side were not his true friends though, as they were just, “constrained things/ Whose hearts are absent too” (5.4.13-14). In the end

The witches also predict that he will be "king hereafter". Macbeth consults his wife and she uses psychology to push Macbeth in to killing King Duncan. Macbeth does kill the King and this is when his downfall begins .
