General Jones is particularly admirable because despite his outstanding resume and endless time overseas, he somehow managed not to let his personal life get in the way of his career (Fick). He was strong enough to keep advancing through the ranks while still maintaining a remarkable level of composure and taking on every new challenge with an open mind. For most people it is difficult to master one task such as organizing and planning but General Jones managed to take on a variety of tasks and preformed each one of them with consistent success. This championship definetely did not end the problems in our world with racism or even for that time. The fact that not all thanes could be as courageous and have so many heroic achievements for their countries and rulers is why Beowulf seems so ideal and extraordinary. Beowulf's many achievements told throughout the story gives him the appearance of the most faithful of thanes, who has climbed the social ladder not because he has meant to do so, but because he wishes to protect his country and others and give all the credit to its rulers. This sort of behavior gives him a kind and generous nature that can be traced to a kind of chivalry. Chivalry can also be considered a very important role in the creation of a thane's reputation and popularity. Through Beowulf's chivalry, generosity, friendship, and popularity, all of his kingdom and of others knew him for his heroism and loyalty.
The gratification he gains from seeing his son grow and flourish throughout the novel has to be one of the most fulfilling experiences a parent can have. The man also experiences a spiritual transformation as a result of his hardships. When a person experiences crisis in their lives they can turn to their spirituality. The snide comments from his fellow team mates still don’t bring his spirit down. Gerardo is ready to compete and believe in himself even if it means standing alone without his team or coaches support. He knows if he has confidence in himself that soon enough others will too. Without struggle there is no progress, if you imagine and believe you will achieve. Only Gerardo knows him limitations and can define them himself, he doesn’t need someone to hold his hand to conquer the world.
Forgiveness is more powerful than hatred, and love and hope is more powerful than any weapon of war. The hero’s journey is one that appeals to a universal audience, regardless of your own context, because we, as humans, all have the capacity to be a hero. We all have challenges in our life we need to overcome and this then brings realisation and growth. Every step of the way, we learn something about ourselves and the world around us. From his youth he lived by his belief that “Knowledge is Power” and he was not afraid to let the world know that God is an important part of everything we do. He was an advocate for justice and freedom. The little details in his life predicted his behavior in loftier and more difficult situations presented to him.
