Darry L. Fitzgerald B5 4/25/13 STEM Reflection Paper I think that the jobs relating to STEM are important, because they study many things that can help us in the future. They try to find solutions to problems in this world today. Many of these jobs are very interesting to me, and are also helpful to society. One example was the field trip we just went to. At that facility, they study drinking water. They try to make sure that the water in our water supply is safe for drinking. Someone who works there said that sometimes, the lead and copper that the pipes are made out of can get into the water. He, also, said that during an earthquake sometimes, the waste that comes from our sinks, bathtubs, and toilets can get into the water supply. Now THAT isn’t safe. That’s why they are there to check the water supply, test it, and make sure it’s safe for drinking. So far the man said that they haven’t made any mistakes in the safety of our water supply, so it seems that this facility is doing well in keeping the nearby communities safe. The things we learned about were very interesting. The job I want to be in is a STEM job too. I want to be a doctor. What type of doctor do I want to be? I want to be a pediatrician! I’m glad that the people of Yokosuka are having this STEM field trip just about every year, because going on enough of these STEM trips can convince people to want to do one of those jobs, maybe. (Actually I wanted to be a doctor even before stem). But, anyway, I hope that these STEM field trips will help not just with the world we live in, but also to convince kids to have STEM
