Philosophy. An Essay. Two more weeks at university and another semester is about to end. Stress levels are running rampart and the trending college topics by mouth, Twitter, Facebook and social media platforms everywhere is “I got to write a paper.” I’m singing the same tune with a twist, “what do I write about?” With 14 weeks of instruction under my belt, my philosophy teachings about the Western Mind should have provided enough knowledge to write a decent four to five page essay. An essay that should provide proof (for a grade) that I have read, digested and somewhat understood what was eloquently printed between the pages of a 500 plus page text book.
I will never forget that night whenever I hear or listened to “Take my breath away” for I would always imagine myself in that dress and rocking that stage again. I remember falling in love for the first time in my life with this one significant other when I was in high school. I did not know how to express my feelings to him, so instead of writing him a letter, a poem, a simple phone call, or even have the courage to just talk to him straight face to face, I called the radio station and dedicated a samoan love song to him. I told one of my friends to tell him to listen to dedications that day and to my surprise, he dedicated a song to me the next day and the third day he asked me out. Growing up from a religious family, I was so devoted to church and religious music affected my life for it made me understand God, got closer to him and even build a strong relationship with him.

He has also published nine books on love, marriage, and emotional health. Because of Dr. Warren’s background and experience as a psychologist, he felt that there was an unexplored market in mate selection. Therefore, he founded eHarmony, a company focuses on singles who are seeking a serious mutual relationship. In early years, Dr. Warren had appeared on TV and in radio programs, to create brand awareness of eHarmony. The major breakthrough occurred in August 2001 when eHarmony was featured in a Christian radio program, and as a result, there were over 100,000 registrations in just a few weeks.
Collins chose 180 poems for the program and the accompanying book, Poetry 180: A Turning Back to Poetry-- one for each day of the school year. Collins edited a second anthology, 180 More Extraordinary Poems for Every Day to refresh the supply of available poems. The program is online, and poems are available there for no charge. In 1997, Collins recorded The Best Cigarette, a collection of 34 of his poems, that would become a bestseller. In 2005, the CD was re-released under a Creative Commons license, allowing free, non-commercial distribution of the recording.
TOMS Vagabonds Social Change Makers Earlier this year, 14 outstanding young people (hailed “Vagabonds”) from across the world chose to light a candle around the country rather than simply accept problems that many feel powerless to change. Galvanized and accomplished, audacious and confident, the TOMS Shoes Vagabond Tour took flight. Divided into five regional teams, they set off to cover the country in shoe-filled vans to share the TOMS story, ignite passion for their One for One movement and connect with peers, communities and themselves. They teamed up with TOMS Campus Representatives across 37 states and invited members of the community to purchase and decorate their own pair of TOMS. People could also watch the TOMS documentary film, For Tomorrow: The TOMS Shoes Story, which provides a deeper insight into the reality of how TOMS fulfills its promise: With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a new pair of shoes to a child in need.
Day in and day out, Danny Boy has been a great challenge for me. When I first signed up for the class, I figured chorus would be an easy credit. I can memorize a couple songs, blend in with the group. No big deal. Boy was I wrong.
You could say that was the start of his career as a composer. Menken attended Rochelle High School in his home town and after graduation went to Pre-med school to become a dentist. Lucky for us he later changed his major to music. After college Alen attended the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop in New York where he worked at local clubs writing jingles and songs as an accompanist. Alen Menken got his first big break in January of 1979 with Howard Ashman in the Off-Broadway production “God Bless you, Mr. Rosewater.” Three years later he received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Music in his Off-Broadway Production “Little Shop of Horrors” and from that in January of 1987 Menken was given his first Oscar nomination for a song with in it called “Mean Green Mother from Outer Space.” In 1990 Menken was nominated for three Oscar nominations and three Golden Globe Nominations and went on to win two of each for his work in the Walt Disney production “The Little Mermaid”.
This panel of judges is like a perfect storm of diverse, accomplished celebrities, musicians, and singers who do a great job selecting talented individuals to represent the entire show throughout the rest of the season. It's clear this panel was looking for singers first and image second. While at least half of the performers failed the pop star test in my mind, if the goal was to let us choose between twelve great singers the mission was accomplished. I am most impressed with the transformation of the man formerly known as "Yo Dog". Randy Jackson has obviously made a conscience decision to fill Simon Cowell's seat by bringing more substance and less late-90's street to the fore.
