Sports in High School Sports should not be dropped in secondary schools because they help students stay focused out on the fields, in their minds, and in the classroom. The history of sports can take us back to at least 3,000 years ago were it often involved the training for war or hunting. They used sports and such to prepare for local games which included throwing spares, rocks and stakes. This later introduced the Olympic Games in 776 BC, which included chariot races, wrestling, jumping, disk and javelin throwing, and more. Sports were designed to keep us physically fit, and in today’s society, staying healthy and fit is essential. With the help of exercising in sports and eating right, teens can be and stay physically fit. Teens who do participate in sports and that are physically fit are more likely to have a positive body image and a higher self-esteem than kids that don’t. Having that said maintaining a healthy diet and exercising, even outside of the sport world, can encourage you to want to stay healthy and want to continue it throughout your adulthood. People who do continue to exercise are more likely not to have serious health problems and diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, and heart diseases. Participating in sports at a young age can reduce amounts of tension and stress, that may be caused by drama at school or outside of school, and improve social and emotional actions. After school, sports give students something productive to do that they might actually look forward to. Sports will leave kids feeling as though they are a part of something bigger than themselves, and it gives them a feeling of self importance. While participating in sports, you will find that practicing everyday afterschool for a couple of hours or so, may actually bring you closer to the people on your team; therefore producing something like friends.
