For the first three years at Savannah things seemed to be going fine. It is reported that in a letter sent to Furman that Johnson had dealt with a few problems from the previous pastor, but nothing that he felt inadequate to handle. In 1814 Johnson created a stir that would require the Church at Savannah to remove him as Pastor. Johnson had come to believe that church business must be done on Sunday. He also took a stand on clergy not elders being the only one to lay hands on in ordaining other men into the ministry.
Family of Woodstock, Inc Sara Worsham BSHS 355 Aaron Short The Family of Woodstock, Inc was created in 1969 when Ms. Gael Varsi noticed there was an abundance of homeless people without resources. She knew there were teenage kids who were running away from abusive parents, adults who needed jobs and others who needed counseling and social services. During a city counsel meeting in Woodstock, Ms. Varsi gave the police chief her phone number and suggested that those coming into town that needed services be given her number and she would readily help them. This was the beginning of what would become a large resource center. In July of 1970 Family of Woodstock’s hotline was established.
These definitions of being homeless are being described by Anna Quindlen in her essay “homeless”. Quindlen uses short fragments, imagery and other structural strategies like interviews and definitions to express her opinion about homeless people while maintaining an emotional time. A house is never a home. It is just a place of shelter. What makes it a home are its people, its specialties and the time spent in it.
I worked at different stations through out two days that I volunteered, which helped me in a good way because I witnessed first hand how much people needed something like that and how everything tied together in one place. For myself, I felt like a community service project wouldn't be done the right way if you went out to do something that wasn't part of your community. So when I decided to do the Latino Expo I thought about how all my neighbors are mainly hispanic, and how I never see them communicate them with one another. So going into this situation i felt like i needed to have goals, a goal to have met in the two days. I wanted to see how the Latino community was outside of my family and friends, and see what questions or worries they had based on stuff that was being talked about there.
Most recently Bill has used his voice to put a spotlight on Family Values in the Black community. C. His “Pound Cake” speech at the NAACP celebration anniversary of the historic Brown vs. The Board of Education decision focused directly on his opinion of certain groups within the Black community inability to uplift the community to the level envisioned by Civil Right leaders of the past. D. He has continues his efforts to promote responsible parenting among inner city low income Black Americans through his national tour of “fireside chats.” Conclusion I. With over fifty years in the public eye there is no shortage on opinions about Bill some good and some not so good.
I think building tiny house communities for homeless peoples in Portland is relevant because if someone were to just walk down Southwest 6th Ave, they would see people sleeping or sitting on the cement in plain view of you downtrodden and solemn as you walk down the sidewalk. I experienced last fall term here on campus. I had to go to Union Way and a few other places for an Arch 120 assignment when I saw how these people were. I am sure that I’m not the only citizen in Portland that has felt this way. I could gain support from Ibrahim Mubarak.

The Homeless and the Streets What classifies a person as homeless? According to a the dictionary definition, “An individual who lacks housing, including one whose primary residence during the night is a supervised public or private facility that provides temporary living accommodations; an individual who is a resident in transitional housing; or an individual who has as a primary residence a public or private place not designed for, or ordinarily used as, a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings.” The homeless individuals around the world live in many different areas according to where they have ended up. Homeless people around the world rely on the street to be their main source of survival. To them, the street isn’t just a home, it’s a way of life. Where the homeless reside is solely determined by them and wherever they wish to stop their journey.
Everyone talks about poverty , and talk about how people are poor but don’t even know the meaning of poverty. Poverty is when the state of being extremely poor, having little money, or being in need of a specific quality. An example of poverty is the state a person is in when he is homeless, and has no money, assets. People talk about different races being in poverty but it’s not specific people it’s everyone in general it can be anyone. Men and women choose to be in poverty because you can get yourself out just like you got in.
Some homeless are staying in homeless shelters, tents, or a friend’s unfinished basement. This is called “sub-standard housing” Even “couch surfing” or staying with a series of friend’s or family may qualify as homelessness if you have no choice, no privacy, no place that is “yours” or you’re uncertain how long each couch is available. I believe that we can put an end to poverty and homelessness. Through the course of history we thought it was “impossible” to end slavery, we ended it. We thought it was “impossible” for women to vote, we accomplished that.
