Poverty Sociology is the science that studies human behavior and the society. Poverty is one of the main key social issues that affect the society. Poverty is referred to as the lack of material things such as money, goods or low living standards in comparison to others. According to World Bank data indicators, the number of people living under $2.50 is three billion. Illiteracy on the other hand, is lack of the ability to read and write. These two social issues are mutually connected and both exist in a vicious circle. This research attempts to explain how poverty is directly related to illiteracy, and their interconnection explained through various social factions; politics and leadership, health, and unemployment. Politics and Leadership Politics and leadership are important social issues that affect daily lives. From the conflict view, the society has an unequal distribution of resources desired for the benefit of minority. Poor leadership leads to poor prioritization of resources and issues. If enough funds are allocated to the education sector, this will create education affordable to all children in the society. This will in turn bring equity to all children and eliminate the political strife. Statistics indicate that most countries that are affected by political instabilities such as Sudan and Somalia rarely have their children go to school. As a result these countries have the worst cases of low poverty levels. Health Reading labels in medicine, nutritional values in foods or administration of basic first aid to a patient is not possible to an illiterate society. On the other hand, poverty has led to poor access to medical facilities leading to high infant mortality rate, maternal deaths and low life expectancy. According to statistics, Somalia and Angola are ranked last in relation to healthcare. Similarly, the two countries are listed least in
