I take a high level of pride in my last name because I was always taught it represented our family as a whole. Whenever someone says “Alex Keller” is not a good person, they are shaming my entire family and that isn't something I should bring upon us. On the contrast my mother, hailing from Detroit, taught me about standing up for what is right and having my voice heard. Many social issues such as racism or homophobia were never really a problem for me. I literally didn't even know things like that existed till I got to intermediate school.
Gatto says that school diminishes creativity; if anything kids discover their hidden creativeness in class while at school. He also says that kids are not able to advance in higher learning. When clearly, kids are able to follow the teacher and be able to get A's while the subjects get more extreme. Gatto says, "teachers tend to blame the kids, as you might expect"(pg. 683) from personal experiences I can say that I have had great relationships with my teachers throughout elementary school and especially High school.
I didn’t get special treatment; I had to work harder than anyone else to make sure that I earned my spot. He also taught me how to coach. Second is my grandma, my mom’s mother. She watched me when my parents were working. She was the best grandma ever.
There isn’t nothing positive being done with the males in my family. They only thing that we all could do well was play sports but talent unused is talent wasted. I believe that I might not be as bad as them but if I continue in the direction I was going in I would end up in the same situations. I had to start my transformation. This is what motivated me to want to change myself and become a better person before it was too late.
Kids of any age will try to convince their parents that they are sick so they don’t have to go to school for the day and hate school. “Little Rock Nine”, on the other hand, actually valued their education. They literally put their lives on the line to go to Central High School and learn. Sure some people sometimes travel three or more hours to get to school but to have to deal with a riot everyday and be criticized for how they look is just cruel. Kids these days have no idea how hard life was back then, even the African American student haven’t a clue to how harsh life was, not just in Central High School but their lives in general were always being tortured.
Another ethical issue occurred when the principal allowed the counselor to transport a student home to pick up homework assignments. Typically students are not allotted this privilege and must accept the consequences of not bringing work to school. I considered the possibilities of her explanation to other students who found themselves in the same situation. The principal and I discussed the issue and she explained some special circumstances with this particular child. The situation still made me question the fairness and equitable treatment of all
These policies will keep children’s feelings from being hurt, but if Eunice cannot do poorly, she has no motivation to do better. When teachers conform to giving easy assignments, grading in purple pens, and not requiring finals, all students will perform the same in school and fall subject to
Anything in life should not be given to anyone it should be earned or suffer the consequence. The fear of failing for some students is scary, he or she does not want to fail and if there motivated the student would most likely try harder and pay more attention in school. In example, when I was in high school I would never concentrate on social studies thinking it was important to me and one day my teacher came up to me telling me I would fail and not graduate this year because of my lack of effort in his class. From there on it got me thinking of my future and I didn’t want to fail and be back in high school for another year for stupid mistakes I made, so the next semester I work harder then ever and passed the class with an A. Sometimes a little motivation and being afraid of failure can motivate someone to work
The students who are yet to be caught will learn from the mistakes of other students and will stop. To increase the effect of locker checks, they should be done with security guards and dogs. Security guards at school increase security and security dogs help find drugs with their noses. School is a place to learn, not a place to bring malicious substances, electronics and etc. So, only learning material should be brought to school.
The thesis of Mary Sherry’s essay is that teachers and parents need to take further action to help their students earn their diplomas. The main points Sherry expresses in her essay are that students barely have any motivation to focus in school, how students are not satisfied with their academic skills, and ways that teachers can get their students to study. First, Sherry mentions in the essay, “…but, as I rediscover each time I walk into the classroom, before a teacher can expect students to concentrate, he has to get their attention, no matter what distractions may be at hand” (Sherry 515). I agree with what she said because I am a recent high school graduate who would always want to be everywhere but school. Another main
