African cultures and tribes have created unrealistic expectations and unjustly inflicting hardship and constrains against women. It’s a fact that any marriage will face its ups and downs and go through a period of extreme happiness and depressions. One of which a man has to be married as soon as he’s circumcised in a ceremony officiated by the elders and crowned the title of a ‘Moran’ meaning a warrior. Having done that, he does not choose whom he’s going to marry. So the fathers have to negotiate without consulting them first. This has basically caused a major huddle to both parties, considering they don’t know each other, how they are going to be in love much more even after with the responsibilities of taking care of the family. Not to mention the dowry to be given out to the either family has to be scouted for. When there is no wealth from the boy’s side it goes without saying they aren’t going to get married. Besides that, when the woman is married, she is given strict measures to adhere to all what her husband says and to be loyal and supportive by all means. What actually adherence means here is the man will just be there to watch over the family with their naked eyes and thus the real work of taking care of the family will be redirected to the woman who will do all she can to bring up a somehow happy family. She’ll do menial jobs to make ends meet. On the other side contrary to what is expected, the husbands are always with no much to do other than just to loiter around with other men, drinking traditional alcohol and beating stories from sunset to sun downer on how to get more children and fill the entire community. The same has made the women to lose hope and resulted in giving up on men. This system is considered as a vital cultural value among most of African tribes when in actual sense should be abolished and termed out casted for the betterment of poor women and children who are raised under the same bubble. In conclusion woman expectations in many African communities is a huge dilemma which has made a few successful by getting good education and getting married in modern setting and the rest perishing as wives with kids who have no basis in life.
