I’ll start off with General Strain theory, it states that strain can be caused by failure to achieve positively valued stimuli, the loss of positively valued stimuli, and presentation of negative stimuli. In Compelled to Crime, the African American battered women were overwhelmed with strain, in response they acted out by committing an array of different crimes. The reasoning behind this could be because of their low levels of social support. The African American battered women did not have a lot of support; they were most of the time cut off from their families and friends. Another example of how strain applies to these women can be seen in Agnew’s writings when he said “Data suggest that child abuse and neglect negative school experiences, chronic unemployment, and residence in deprived communities are important causes sate anger and that such anger explains much of the effective of strains on crime.” (Agnew, Chp.
In his view, the white race in general was guilty for the suppression and sufferings of the black race. Because of the cultural aggression and degradation that blacks suffered for hundreds of years, Malcolm X claimed that black liberation starts with self appreciation. His goal was that the blacks learn more about themselves, their culture and
The passivity of Black people allowed racism to flourish. While Black’s practiced the religion that had been forced upon their ancestors, the descendants of the owners of their ancestors continued to abuse them. White men rapped Afrika, pillaging the culture, enslaving the people and conditioning us to forget. Joe is the epitome of the negative affects of an Afrikan trying to assimilate to a white world. He wanted so bad to be seen as different, as unlike his Afrika embracing mother as he could.

Many also argue that Chesnutt’s position on race and separation is the very thing that helped to fuel his writing. One of his more popular stories titled, “The Wife of his Youth” sparked a lot of controversy on this subject. This short story explores the intellectual pressure, moral conflicts, and psychological strains experienced by people of mixed-race similar to him. Essentially, through Chesnutt’s choice of diction, and conflict, one can determine his negative attitude toward the separation of races, the separation within a race,
HistorySlavery was an institution that victimized as well as other cultures due to being in a controlled environment. Every suffered in their own way due to racial prejudice and fear of growing numbers. Masters which were also called Slave "owners" believed that treating another human being of another color like an animal was right. The children of the slave owners were being victimized as well due to following what their parent’s doings were right in treating another human being in such a manner. Slavery was so victimized that it still affects the society to the extent that black people blame the whites , and white people still agree that black people need to be slaves.
Rod Pierson Abuse, Neglect in Family HS 481 Joe Walsh April 22, 2011 Africa American Men and Intimate Partner Violence The tragedy for African American families and the African American community is that for years the family provided the social support and protection from the racism African Americans routinely in the outside world. What African American IPV accomplishes is the alienation of African American men from the very people who are standing there supporting them, protecting them from all kinds of racist acts ranging from job discrimination to police brutality and to their female partners. The tragic irony in IPV is that the very racism that African American men rely on their female partners to buffer is also the source of hostility that lead to so much of the abuse they perpetrate against these same female partners. This type of IPV rips apart the African American family and leaves African American men and women vulnerable to the racism perpetrated against them from the outside world. In this paper I will discuss some of the significant causes.
I do believe that the media can be held partially liable for the discrimination against African-Americans in the school system. Since I have witness much discrimination against the African-Americans, I wanted to understand their perspective and why there was so much animosity. In the African American population the amount of discrimination that takes place can steer them into poverty. Olzak, (1992) stated
