Small Teams and Groups Experience COM/100 March 24, 2014 Jonathan Page Small Teams and Groups Experience Being part of a small team or group is inevitable and commonplace at some point in every person’s career or life. Many people do not even realize they are working as part of a whole unit or group, and do it naturally. Whether it is as a student in a classroom or as an employee in an office environment, teams and groups are nearly everywhere. It is also important to clarify that a team and a group are not the same thing, even though they are often used interchangeably (Pollick, 2014). I have worked with several small teams, most recently in every single class I have taken here at the University of Phoenix. I have been a part of groups, in classrooms since I was a child walking in line with the rest of my elementary school class to the playground or cafeteria at the direction of my teacher. I have worked as part of a team in every job I have ever held, from the first one at Wienerschnitzel, a hot dog fast food establishment; to the job I held the longest at Target, a retail store. I have worked as part of a small group of mothers running PTA events at my children’s school and volunteered to help staff at my children’s school on picture day to organize students. However for the purpose of this assignment, I will use my involvement in a Learning Team, in one of my first classes here at the University of Phoenix, due to the diversity of the team and the problems we encountered and resolved. Development and Leadership This specific team was composed of six team members. We were grouped up as a team by our classroom facilitator with no regard to personal preferences.
