Learning Autobiography (LAB # 1): Formal and Informal Educational Experiences 9/1/2013 LAS 30012 Writing and Critical Thinking in the Liberal Arts Ottawa University In order to be successful in today’s world it is a necessity to have an education. According to dictionary.com an education is, “the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life.” When you think of an education, your first thought is probably of one in a class room. Though this is where the majority of learning takes place, there is also learning that can be taken from experiences in everyday life. Both of which however are crucial to ones future success. Here is my education experience in my life time, and how I plan to use my education to better my life.
My greatest accomplishment as it relates to students in the school setting was to be one of six teachers selected in SY 1997-1998 to participate in a six week professional development training for designing and implementing a 21st century classroom. The training included the critical attributes of a 21st century classroom where the traditional physical design was a teaching cart that included a large screen television, a desktop computer with Microsoft office and access to the internet, speakers and a video recorder. The training also implemented instructional strategies for performance based assessments and the use of technology based activities that led to increased student achievement in the classroom. The new technology made a remarkable difference in my delivery of instruction in both my American History and World Geography classes, for I crafted my lesson plans that included hands on activities through the inquiry approach. The challenge of student engagement in the learning process and their having access to technology was accomplished by scheduling my classes in the new media library during class periods.
In this paper, I shall critically review an article, entitled ' Thinking the Textbook in the ESL/EFL classroom by Wang Wen-Cheng, Lin Chien-Hung and Lee Chung-Chieh.' I shall also shed a light on the issues that have been argued in the article. Additionally, I will take down some notes about the subject matter of the article from my point of view, and after I pick out the issues of the article, I will add my concern about it and how is related to me and to my students in the process of teaching English in the classroom. The authors in the article have argued that textbooks are crucially significant in the process of teaching in the classroom since it provides novice teachers with guidance in the course and it also guarantees the structure, consistency, and coherent progress in the class. They have also presented that textbooks happen learners' needs of having something to work from and use it for homework for further study.
What makes an effective primary classroom? Discuss and debate with reference to research and wide reading, including journals, books and other media During this essay I will look at several areas of schooling, all of which have an impact on making the classroom a productive place for children to learn. Getting the right balance of all factors in the classroom is vital in maintaining and progressing a child’s intelligence. I will specifically focus on the ways in which teaching methods can make the classroom a successful place to be. In particular how they keep the classroom under control but also make it a fun place to learn.
Inclusive education means that all students in a school, regardless of their strengths or weaknesses in any area, become part of the school community. They are included in the feeling of belonging among other students, teachers, and support staff. The federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and its 1997 amendments make it clear that schools have a duty to educate children with disabilities in general education classrooms. IDEA, as amended in 2004, does not require inclusion. Instead, the law requires that children with disabilities be educated in the "least restrictive environment appropriate” to meet their “unique needs.” IDEA contemplates that the "least restrictive environment" analysis will begin with

I taught and assessed them on Unit 1 Preparing Business Communications section of the course. They were assessed both summatively and formatively. Summative assessment took the form of a classroom based exam paper during which they conformed to an exam type situation. Formative assessment was ongoing throughout lessons taught through discussion, active questioning, tasks and homework all of which enabled me to give effective feedback to the students. I will discuss these two types of assessment throughout the course of this essay.
Language development in Early Childhood Students Rosetta Billingslea ECE 315 Language Development in Young Children Mrs. Debra Gray June 13, 2011 This essay is based on the information ascertained in Chapters 1-8 of our textbook Language Development in Early Childhood. In this essay I will use information and terminology gained from those chapters in order to demonstrate to you the reader my knowledge and understanding of the concepts of Language Development and Literacy of Young Children shared in those chapters presented above. Throughout my textbook I learned that one of the most important things about Language Development is that it starts with the teacher. Although oral language development is a primary goal in early childhood programs, learning experiences and teaching strategies do not always support this goal. So I feel teachers need to know and be aware of the one-to-one, extended, cognitively challenging conversations and how to engage in such communication, even with students that are reluctant talkers.
Technology is a new tool in education that consistently changes and offers new opportunities for teacher and learning (Akcay 2008). Teaching technology ethics in the classroom will prevent students from getting in trouble inside and outside the classroom. As a teacher, it will be very important to teach students about the safe and unsafe ways of internet use. Teaching students about internet security will be vital at the beginning of a school year, so the student will have an understanding of the teacher's expectations of internet use. The first measure to take with students will be to have them and their parents to sign an internet user agreement that will apply throughout the entire school.
This spreadsheet is now used by all of the building level administrators when they share their data to the board. Another characteristic of having an Arranger strength, is the ability to create teams that will can work together. I was asked my by principal to select a few teachers to be part of our innovative planning team. This team needed members that would a discuss our school divisions goal from transitioning away from the standard memorization and test-taking model and moving towards providing our youth with skills that will help them in the 21st century workforce. I was able to select teachers with different personalities and different viewpoints on education to come together and develop STEAM lesson plans that would increase collaboration and engagement with our
