I somehow got the chance to be part of a once in a lifetime experience; I got to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This to me is the greatest honor I could ever wish for. Watching the soldier march back and forth, guarding the tomb, made me realize how important this monument was to him and the other soldiers there. When I walked down those steps and carried the wreath to the stand where a soldier helped me lay it, I was feeling two different emotions. One part of me was grieving for the unknown soldiers of past wars, the other part of me felt accomplished.
the wounded warrior project thanks the veterans for subjecting themselves to the violence of war that eventually leads to life changing injuries. This brings a sense of sympathy towards the wounded individuals and perphaps even guilt , but also a great sense to veterans who actually get to watch the video. This awareness has lead the congress and federal government to promote the forward looking policy such as the land mark , “Caregiver and Veterans Omnibus Health Service Act of 2010” ,which was signed by President Obama into law. This policy helps legestalative improvements that aid in closing the gaps and eliminating barriers to improved mental health for warriors ,their families and caregivers. The policy has also fostered economic empowerment of the wounded veterans by eliminating educational and employment barriers and helps to ensure the veterans have access to longterm rehabilitative care for severely wounded
His artillery unit was serving around Ypres in the flander part of Belgium when allied troops battled Germans around this region. In the second battle in Ypres he witnessed his friends death that led him to write “In Flanders Field”. McCrae’s poem is trying to infer that the dead did not die for no reason and that they hand the challenge to us to keep on fighting. The point of this poem is to show us that the dead soldiers are not really dead because they will always be alive in our memory for they did not die in vain. I think this poem represent all the people that gave their lives up for us, not only in Ypres but everywhere else, that they will live on forever in our memories.
What is Veterans Day? Veterans Day is held every year on November 11th at Arlington National Cemetery. This ceremony is held to thank and honor everyone who has served in the United States Armed Forces. Also, to remember those who have lost their lives while serving in the Untied States Armed Forces. In November 1919, president Wilson announced November 11 as the first memorial of Armistice Day with the following words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…" Later that same year on October 8th, President Dwight D. Eisenhower announced it Veterans Day, instead of Armistice Day.
When is the last time you welcomed home any veteran past or present and thanked them for their service? It seems civilians take their freedom for granted; not stopping to think who suffered, has been mistreated, or spit on, came home disabled, and who died so we can say what we want, watch what we want, or go where we want. Although civilian’s opinion on the different wars and the service members who have sacrificed during those wars has changed over the years; one thing remains true; we owe our freedom, safety, and peace of mind to the service members of all the branches of the military. While Service members chose to enlist and knew the consequences of their decision, Civilians take for granted all the sacrifices made so we can be free today.
The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing our ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world. The
I felt this way because both the generals’ men were fighting against the Confederates so they should work together. Once again general Robert Shaw put them together. The movie Glory made me think about the views of both the sides and made me realize that the Civil War was a really important
There, they were able to rest, get warm food, and not worry about getting attacked for the first time since December 17, 1944. While they were there, General Eisenhower awarded the 101st Airborne Division the Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation. This was a great honor because this was the first time it was awarded to a whole division. The last reason why the men of E. Company are my heroes is because where ever they were needed they were there to help. On January 18th to February 23rd they were put on the front lines in Hagenau to fight the Germans back and won.
His letters gave us the reality of World War One, and the price the military paid for the freedom we have. Brownie gave the readers insight of the day to day living, training, and other conditions the
When soldiers get sent overseas, they leave their family to protect and keep our country safe. Nathan Hale, a Patriot soldier who spied on the British troops, once said, “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.” These people are showing that they are true Patriots. You
