Should We Need A Licence To Be A Parent? Should it be mandatory to obtain a licence in order to be a parent? This question has come up several times in society. People share different opinions and views on whether or not a licence should be required in order to have children. How would this rule or regulation be enforced? How can the government say one may or may not have a child? Just because someone passes a test, does it make the person a qualified parent? Making it mandatory for parents to obtain a licence to have children, would not be a sufficient answer to reduce child abuse. A licence should not be mandatory in order for one to be able to have a child. There are several concerning questions and disagreements that surround this topic. How would this rule be enforced? If turning to Children's Aid and allowing the agency to take the children out of the home that have "unqualified" parents, should it not be taken into consideration that foster homes will be largely over populated, considering they already are without this increase? Another question that comes to mind is, how can the government dictate who can and cannot have a child? It should not be government decisions that affect who may and may not have a child. Everyone has the right to pursue the dream of having a family. Next, does passing a test really prove that one may be a "qualified" parent? Even though some people pass the test, it would not eliminate the abusive or harmful people. There is still the chance that that person can be abusive or treat their child in an unrighteous manner. Can the knowledge of a parent be properly tested? Having the skills to be a parent often comes with experience. There are parenting classes in order to prepare new parents for the coming of their newborn, but the class cannot teach everything there is to know about "how to be a
