Abstract Discipline: It’s a topic that not many people want to discuss, because there are vastly different points of view on what proper discipline entails. I believe that God has laid the groundwork for effectively disciplining children. Research has been done on this topic, but the statistics can be viewed in many different ways. Each parent must make their own determination on what form of discipline is appropriate for their family. When disciplining children, the expected result of the training must keep in mind. What is the end goal? What kind of person do you want your child to be? What is Biblical Discipline? God’s Word makes it very clear (Psalm 127:3) that children are a gift and blessing from Him. With each gift comes the responsibility of stewardship and our duty to be found faithful (1 Corinthians 4:2). This blessing is enhanced when parents use Scripture and the Holy Spirit’s guidance to provide strength, direction, and correction for their children (Proverbs 29:17). Most researchers believe that parent discipline practices are absolutely vital in the socialization and development of children. (Pinderhughes, Dodge, Bates, Pettit, and Zelli, 2000). Though many studies have been done on how various environmental discipline factors affect a child’s development, most of the studies are focused primarily, or solely in some cases, on the use of corporal punishment in the disciplining of a child. Discipline resources include multiple influences ranging from more external factors such as culture, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status (SES), to more internal or family factors such as social support structures, family structure, and family processes. It is my belief that, as a Christian and father of two small children, discipline is something that must come straight from God’s Word. It is something that requires a serious commitment of time,
