Kent J. Fetzer expressed, “Our biggest problem with a school uniform policy is the anti-individuality message it sends.” He feels students lose their freedom when forced to conform to only certain apparels. He believes in letting students experience freedom in order to learn how to act responsibly. I strongly believe teens need to learn how to act responsibly at a young age to develop skills for the future, but I refuse to believe that uniforms take away individuality. In contrast to Fetzer’s beliefs, Mike Kelly proclaimed, "Uniforms instill discipline, help students focus on their studies and eliminate pressure on parents to outfit their kids." He believes uniforms help parents as well as the students.
Intelligent people get better grades because they get higher CST scores. As a result I would want better grades so I am able to be in honors classes. I also want good grades because I could go to a better high school. In addition, I would rather be more intelligent because that no one can take it away from me. Another benefit of being smart is that I have a chance to go to a better college or university.
The only negative I see in the self-contained setting is the fact that the kids are sometimes cut off from the general education students. Socializing and interacting with other students is very important during a student’s educational experience. This is the time where kids learn to be tolerant of other people’s differences and learn to work with others. The inclusive classroom to me should only be prescribed on a case by case basis. I feel it is a good idea in theory but in some cases it is just not a reasonable solution to me.
Flunking students can be used as a positive tool by our education system. The consequence of flunking and holding students back alone can be used to motivate and encourage students to put full effort into class work. Most students fear flunking only because they’re afraid of what friends, peers and society will say or think about them; this is all wrong, the real fear should be failing and not being
The policy that is in place to keep the students and teachers safe at schools needs to be fixed, so that people are not being wrong fully expelled, and wrong fully accused of something. Kids make mistakes, and it is ok to be punished for a crime, but to what extent is okay? This policy is a good thing, it is good to try to keep everyone safe. We need to change the extent of punishment these students face when committing a very minor
Landon Stewart Mrs. Luker Government A4 10/23/12 Cons of School Uniforms There are many schools in the U.S. that require their students to wear uniforms, and there are more that don't. I believe that school uniforms should not be required for a few reasons. Uniforms take away from a person's individual identity and freedom to express himself or herself. They can be costly to people depending on a family’s financial status. School uniforms can also be a very uncomfortable fashion that students would not take a liking to.
This can be picked upon by others and lead to that person being teased and left feeling hurt. The way that this can be prevented is if schools promote a strict uniform policy in which all school uniform should be the same. This starts from the top e.g. jumpers and cardigans down to the recommended all plain, black school shoes. This way it keeps everybody equal in terms of wearing the correct clothing and may reduce or even stop young people/children from being discriminated.
One thing that is certain, however, is that we would not dare wear anything deemed “inappropriate” by our parents or any other adult; at least most of us would not! Today’s society and children are a different breed altogether; they will push boundaries as far as they can and show more skin than we did in our bathing suits, regardless of what authority figures say or think. Dress codes are important in a public school to keep things at an even balance. Students can focus more on who they are than what they are wearing, improving their self-esteem. “School officials have a responsibility to provide a safe, secure, and productive learning environment.
This does not mean that parents have no rights to what happens to their child while they are at school but this allows school to guide student behaviors though discipline. This idea is called in loco parentis (pg. 378). This concept was once more important in schools than it is now but it has brought forth it idea that no matter the student, disabled or not, there needs to be a certain level of responsibility put on all students for their behaviors when they are at school. This would be a great chapter of the book for parents to read because it would help them to understand why the school is doing what it is doing.
Gatto is saying that schooling is made for kids to adapt to; it has adaptive qualities, therefore there is a chance for everyone to succeed if they really want to, but it takes away from any individual thinking. Conforming is another evil of school because it makes us forced to learn things we really have no interest in and as Gatto states “its intention is to make children as alike as possible”(153). A lot of students use this excuse while they are in high school “when am I ever going to use this again in life” ill be honest I have said it before but I don't necessarily agree with these students because you need to build a base education before you figure out what you want your schooling to focus on. Kids change their minds everyday, I realized that I’m not quite sure I want to be an art major anymore, even being in the first couple of classes I knew it wasn’t for me
