UNITED STATES -GIOVANNI ROSSI P.5 Most Americans don’t know this, I certainly didn’t, but Hawaii and the United States have had conflicts of Hawaii wanting to separate from the United States. The Movement is mainly focused on self-determination and self-governance for Hawaii. This all started with royalists organizations being formed after the overthrow of the kingdom of Hawaii. The Queen of Hawaii, Queen Liliuokalani was overthrown. She tried to restore her power, even threatening military force. However over time her views of her overthrow changed. She stated in her idary that “Tho' for a moment it cost me a pang of pain for my people it was only momentary, for the present has a hope for the future of my people.” Even though the quote was verified as valid, the people loyal to her did not believe she would say this and want to separate from the United States and form the Kingdom of Hawaii again. In 1987 a Sovereignty Organization Kahui was formed in 1987 as attempt to separate from the United States. U.N. Representative Mililani Trask, and her sister Haunani-Kay Trask tried to bargain with the United States for recognition, land, and restitution, while lobbying at the United Nations for Decolonization relief. The United States proposed the Akaka Bill,which recognizes Native Hawaiians as a first nation on par with Native Americans and Alaskan tribes. Ka Lahui declined it saying that it is a poor compromise.(1) David Keanu Sai believes that Hawaii is being occupied by the United States rather then being a part of the United States. He used the title Chairman of the Acting Council of Regency of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Sai co-founded a Hawaiian title company, Perfect Title, which stated that all land transactions since the overthrow of the monarchy were invalid if superseded by
