Throughout the history of mankind, humans have always been faced with death. Death can consist of anything from disease, virus, natural causes, as well as many other illnesses. The associations with animals and the processes of bodily functions with humans prove animals seem to be our closest and foremost option for medical testing. Many citizens feel animal testing is good and many feel it is bad, but there is a very fine line between right and wrong when animals are being used for scientific research. With human deaths constantly on the rise, animal testing should be used as our primary source for cures. As many people may think animal testing has not just started recently. The idea of stewardship of animals developed in ancient times, as early as humans domesticated animals. Additionally in early cultures, priests or shaman began to observe the relationship between human health and animal diseases. Many basic cell processes are the same in all animals, and the bodies of animals are like humans in the way that they perform many vital functions such as breathing, digestion, movement, sight, hearing and reproduction. We can all compare the similarities and differences between humans and animals. It was only a matter of time before there was an institution established where there were controlled experiments to see the effects of medications and procedures on both humans and animals. In France in 1762, we see the creation of the first Veterinary College at Lyon; it was based on the training already in existence in the study of human medicine. With animal research many disease-causing organisms were identified before the end of the century, as well as spectacular medical advances with such procedures as ether anesthesia
