Habit 1-3 Reflection FCS-486 3/30/15 Seven Habits of Highly Effective People The Seven Habits exposes the importance of character ethics and the timeless principles that make up our value systems. These ethics are essential building blocks in creating a great life. Covey works on his readers through the inside-out and breaks up the seven habits into two parts; Personal Victory and Public Victory. Be Proactive, Begin with the end in mind, and put first things first are the habits that make up the first part, personal victory. The first three habits deal with moving from dependence to independence. Habit 1 is Be Proactive: this means you taking full responsibility for your own life. You have the ability to choose your responses. Proactive people are effective because their behavior is product of their own decisions rather than being a product of their condition. Proactive people always find an optimistic alternative when things go wrong. Covey states you can choose to not be miserable. You do not have to empower the weakness of others who are trying to control you, take control of your own life and do what you feel is best. When you are proactive, you want to act and not be acted upon and stay true to your human nature. Reactive people however always blame everything surrounding them for excuses of why they are not responsible or cannot do something. For example, imagine if it was the Saturday you have been waiting weeks for because you were going to your favorite amusement park but it starts raining before you are supposed to go. A proactive person would react to this situation trying to find indoor places that have games and attractions to substitute the amusement park. But a reactive person would put the blame on the weather and complain it is out of their control and was a waste of time. The second of the 7 habits, is “Begin with the end in mind”,
