Self-Efficacy Critical Thinking Paper Abstract According to Bandura (1998), “Self-efficacy is defined as people’s beliefs about their capabilities to produce designated levels of performance that exercise influence over events that affect their lives.” (p. 1) Self-efficacy is the measure of a person’s ability to set goals and reach them through a strong sense of cognition, affectiveness, and motivational behavior. The cognitive process is the process of thinking which involves three stages: the acquisition of knowledge, organization of the knowledge and the final step is the application of the acquired knowledge. An individual must go through affective process of using their knowledge by regulating their emotions and using them as needed. Behavior is a very important of self-efficacy; it is the basis of how a person reacts to acquired knowledge. If a person is motivated to learn then they will, and also the person teaching must have a positive attitude as well. The behavioral approach will control the affective process of cognitive application. As a college student, an individual is required all three of these processes of self-efficacy to gain a strong sense of self. A strong sense of self-efficacy can allow a person to solve their personal and professional problems easily. It will aid them to react affectively while keeping their emotions in check to think rationally. Critical Thinking in Relation to Assumption Before taking this course, I perceived psychology to be the study of human behavior. I thought it observed how human behavior is linked to the functions of the brain. Prior to coming to college I conceived myself to be a great learner who would need to spend a lot of time learning concepts in my college courses. I have learned a lot more in psychology of how each part of the brain is related to our actions, how behavior is monitored
