The principal and I did not agree upon the punishment for the student. After explaining the reasoning behind my decision not to suspend, the principal let the decision stand. I felt my decision would have a positive impact on the student. I also gave this student an alternative solution rather than running away from his problems at school. Another ethical issue occurred when the principal allowed the counselor to transport a student home to pick up homework assignments.
This does not mean that parents have no rights to what happens to their child while they are at school but this allows school to guide student behaviors though discipline. This idea is called in loco parentis (pg. 378). This concept was once more important in schools than it is now but it has brought forth it idea that no matter the student, disabled or not, there needs to be a certain level of responsibility put on all students for their behaviors when they are at school. This would be a great chapter of the book for parents to read because it would help them to understand why the school is doing what it is doing.
Verbally explaining and sending home copies of a homework policy would be appropriate for a second grade class. The periodic review of the policy and reinforcement would also be fitting in a second grade homework policy and promote positive social interaction. The reduction in grading for not turning in homework is not developmentally appropriate for second grade. The teacher-student-parent connection is also not continuously reinforced. Second grade home work policies should be focused on developing good study skills, habits and a regular home connection keeping families informed ("Research Spotlight on Homework").
Classroom Management Task 1 Homework Policy A1) Positive Social Interaction Mr. Collet’s homework policy promoted positive social interactions with the student must talk with the teacher first to get late assignments approved to turn in. This gives the teacher and student one on one time to discuss why the homework is being turned in late and ways to prevent it from happening again. This part of the police would promote positive social interaction in a 4th grade classroom because this allows the teacher to have a dialogue with the students when they have fail to meet the requirements. Then one on one meeting is a opportunity to use critical thinking to solve the problem to prevent from being late on turning in homework in the future. The one on one meetings allows the teacher to get to know about the interests, hope, and concerns of the student, and facilitate a relationship in which students feel they are emotionally and physically safe and, therefore free to engage in constructive discourser with their teacher (Brewster, 2000).
Creating a predictable, consistent, and success-oriented environment will promote self-management in my students by creating, basic, daily routines with limited changes (Savage & Savage, 2010). These predictable and consistent routines will drive a success-orientated environment by reducing student anxiety creating a positive self-efficacy within each student (Savage & Savage, 2010). With my endorsement in Special Education the ability to create and keep basic routines will be directed by the physical, emotional, and

I believe that I have a more to learn about classroom management and policy, especially dealing with punishment and consequences. The use of praise in my classroom management style might be good. In the use and way I praise students matched the use of best practices of more seasoned professionals. I have linked praised with student performance and instruction.
This make's the child very happy and like to continue or add more to what they have done. It also makes them feel good about themselves. Praises are very important when working with children because it also helps the develop their morals. Negative behaviour will be ignored as long as there is no health and safety risk. A tantrum will be ignored by the teachers but if a child is expressing negative behaviour such as hitting, they will then be told to stop in a firm voice (not shouting) Vygotsky - Adults should provide a play based curriculum and engage with children in play activities to extend their learning.
That is when I realized that he wasn’t necessarily a “bad” student he was just a young child who needed motivation and someone who would just care. That is the meaning that I found within Dr. Michaels statement. How does a classroom teacher garner respect? There are many methods that a teacher can use in order to gain their students respect. For example, the most effective method would be, to respect the students and their feelings before they can respect you.
Help Improve Own and Team Practice in Schools Explain in detail how you would you would take note of children and young people's responses to your own practice: Take and note about you've interacted with children, how they've responded to you and if you can improve or better what happened in a similar situation in the future. It is always important to remember that children are not clones, some respond well to humour, some do not. Even sarcasm meant in the most light hearted manner to some children could be mistaken in some cases as a form of passive aggressiveness, therefore it is best avoided on a one to one basis. It is also important to remember that the people you are assisting are developing in life, some are more advanced than others and some are more sensitive than others. Children may laugh at bit of harmless humour delivered on a friendly manner if being spoken to as a group and it can also be helpful to speed their attention spans which will be on a varied level in every single class sometimes even on each end of the spectrum.
When it comes to Cognitive Behavioral interventions the behavioral concept is to incorporate systematic procedures for rewarding students for the reduction of aggressive behavior that they display to their peers, administration staff and educators and use their problem solving strategies instead of lashing out. The educator will use social reinforcements to praise and recognize which can include extra time on the computer, listening to their favorite song or even extra time in recess to show that their positive attitude and behavior is appreciated. We know that this won’t be easy or will not be picked up by the student quickly having positive feedback, rules and regulations set in place, proper modeling and even multiple practice opportunities. We cannot place the child in a situation that we know they are going to fail in just to prove a point and we have to keep in mind that every child is not the same and every reaction will not be the same as well (Etscheidt, S.,
