Literary Analysis Essay 13.11.2012 Secret life of bees is a book in 1960s, as we know during that time a revolution was happening like segregation of black people, technology was getting better, etc. Sue Monk Kidd wrote this wonderful book that concluded almost all events that happened at that time, also she concluded life of a young lady from Sylvan, South Carolina. She was a pretty young little girl that had a lot of problem with her father, T.Ray. Sue Monk Kidd uses a lot of allusion, juxtaposition, and epigraph. Lily loved bees and Sue Monk Kidd used epigraph at the beginning of the book, a quote about bees related to the story. Now I am going to talk about racism that its bad and we should fight against it, also I will talk about how kids need love from their parents and support to succeed in their life. Racism is bad, fight against it. Racism is used a lot in the book, specially that in 1960s It was a big problem, white people treated black very bad. One example of racist is when one of Zach’s friends threw a RC cola bottle at the white men and then they start a fight, even though it wasn’t Zach fault the police arrested him and put him in jail, that is one example of racism. Why didn’t they arrest also white men? They were at the same fight at were much older. So that’s why racism is so bad. Another example of racism in the book is when Rosaleen spit in one of white men’s foot, she got beaten up by the same men and then got arrested, that’s one example that even though Rosaleen was a women, she is not supposed to be treated like that, and got arrested for a small thing and nothing happened to the white men. So we need to disappear racism and then live free and happy, so fight against it and try to disappear it all. Kids need love from their parents.
