School uniforms define a positive remedy in public and private schools. It’s not about whether the student will have to wear knee-length skirts, or tie. Uniforms help modify students as a whole instead of individuals. Uniforms act as social equalizers for students in the schools. Uniforms show unique fashion, help financially, and improve social skills.
Every day kids would only think to go to school to snitch. This leads me to my next reason why the school snitch program is a bad idea. Lastly, kids could want money so much that they would just put weapons or drugs in someone else’s locker and snitch. Although there are cameras, someone could dress up in black and sneak something in someone’s locker. This program will trigger more fights.
Their feelings being hurt by fellow students, also know as bullies. Being bullied can lower ones self esteem to a point of destruction one of the main reasons children are bullied at school is because of the types of clothes they are wearing or not wearing. Some families are not as fortunate as others and therefore can not afford to spend money on expensive name brand clothing. It is noted that some believe school uniforms remove the issue of competitive dressing and help children from poorer backgrounds who would otherwise find it difficult to keep up with the latest fashion trends(McDermott, Patrick). In addition, some school heads believe that school uniforms vanishes social, economic and class divisions and inculcate a sense of pride in students(McCarthy, Lisa).
MaCoHigh Instructor McCauley ENC 1101 February 27, 2012 Should Uniforms Be Worn In Public Schools? Many parents argue about whether or not uniforms is a good fit for their children to wear to a public school. Uniforms are a good fit for a public school just as we as it is for a private school. If kids were enforced to wear uniforms to school it could solve a lot of issues: Kids won't be picking at other kids because of their clothes, staffs do not have to worry about whether or not the student outfit is inappropriate or not, and students could help promote themselves for future workplaces. Often students are being picked on at school because of the clothing that they are wearing.
It should not be the school’s responsibility to teach values and morals but, to support and uphold these basic beliefs. Parents should be aware and educating their students about what is proper and improper to bring to school. Schools with routine locker searches, where students are being caught help reinforce positive behavior within the student body. This fosters a positive atmosphere for everyone. I would like to believe that schools provide safe environments for our children to learn and grow.
Students who wear expensive clothing alienate those students who are less fortunate and cannot afford to. School uniforms are beneficial and should be required to help students focus on school instead of other inappropriate things. Instead of focusing on your appearance, focus on your school work. Dress code prevents its unnecessary competition. A student should not spend hours getting ready for school in the morning, because uniforms eliminate so many options.
Having officers who can double as educators will help kids relate and spend time with these officers making it more likely for them to ask for help in times of need. Without an escalation of police officers in schools we cannot assume that the students will take it upon themselves to solve these problems and more likely they will become worse over time. “In the 2009-2010 school year alone 1,183,700 violent crimes were committed at American public schools according to the department of education and department of justice. Many of these violent crimes have gone unreported to police.”(cnsnews.com) These crimes include rape, sexual battery other than rape, physical attack, fights, and robbery with or without weapons. These bone chilling crimes committed by these youths and young adults could be lessened if not completely stopped by police escalation in these institutions.
The Clark County School districts policies were not intending to squelch free speech but instead were aimed at ‘creating an educational environment free from the distractions, dangers, and disagreements that result when student clothing choices are left unrestricted,’ said Judge Michael Hawkins.” (Egelko) If there is not a distraction of what people are wearing, there is more of a chance that students would focus more on learning. School is not holding a fashion show! Students are the leaders of tomorrow and the outrageous outfits worn by students need not to distract them. According to an opposing viewpoints resource center it says, “Uniforms instill discipline, helps students focus on their studies and eliminate
Not many students are going to agree with a high school’s dress code policy, unless of course the dress code is no dress code. The issue of students wearing clothing that are outside of the dress code regulations is clearly an everyday kind of thing. By this point most would think that the administrative offices would have tried to do something to ease up the regulations, or at least find a better way to go about the situation when a student is dress coded. As cliché as it is, shouldn’t teachers and administrators be more concerned about our education than the clothing we wear? Yes, I do understand that the policy was written with good intentions; to keep students dressed in a manner that will represent the school well and also keep students focused on their learning not on how short the girl’s shorts are in the seat in front of them, but certain rules have gone to an unnecessary extent.
Why Uniforms Should Be Mandated For as long as I can remember, I have always worn uniforms to school. Growing up I never had a problem with wearing uniforms; I actually liked them. A lot of people may be against school uniforms, but I am for it. School uniforms should be mandated in all public schools because it prevents bullying, it saves time, and it saves money. First, mandating uniforms in public schools can prevent kids from getting bullied.
