Police Presence In US School System Larger police presence in educational properties will improve students safety in the United States. There have been problems in schools with violent crimes, illegal drugs, and shootings. If there was a larger police presence in schools and colleges it would be safer because the more trained police you have, the better chance you have of preventing these highly illegal and violent events from occurring. Officers could also be trained to educate and help students to protect themselves against crimes and substance abuse. Having officers who can double as educators will help kids relate and spend time with these officers making it more likely for them to ask for help in times of need. Without an escalation of police officers in schools we cannot assume that the students will take it upon themselves to solve these problems and more likely they will become worse over time. “In the 2009-2010 school year alone 1,183,700 violent crimes were committed at American public schools according to the department of education and department of justice. Many of these violent crimes have gone unreported to police.”(cnsnews.com) These crimes include rape, sexual battery other than rape, physical attack, fights, and robbery with or without weapons. These bone chilling crimes committed by these youths and young adults could be lessened if not completely stopped by police escalation in these institutions. Having more watchful eyes on these students will not only make them second guess performing these horrible crimes but also make them stopped at a faster rate which will potentially lessen the severity of the acts. Also the students will have officers to confide in when they feel like they may be threatened by these crimes allowing the officers to stay inside the loop with students allowing them to prevent the crimes from occurring at all. “An
