Cyberbullying is defined as being bullied outside of school through the use of technology, which has become a very serious issue, due to the fact that children, preteens and teenagers are being bullied through mass texts, facebook, email, instant messaging. Face-to-face bullying has a different effect. Typically when in front of the student at school, things can get out of control through conflicts over many things such as a girl. This can result in the student being kicked, shoved into the lockers, or having your hair pulled. Slander is very common when bullying someone. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young adults, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year. According to the ABC news, close to 30% of students are either bullies or victims of bullying which leaves 160,000 students to want stay home from school every year because of the fear of being bullied. The difference between being bullied over the internet and being bullied in school is that people are watching when it is at school, whether it’s out on recess or at lunch. Bullying online is easier to go undetected usually because being bullied on the internet is only witnessed by the victim. However, sometimes it is shared through different media sites just to humiliate the victim in front of their peers at school, or worse the community they live in. According to “Cyberbullying prevention and response” on how school counselors can help, they said that cyber bullying these days seems to be more nefarious than “offline bullying” due to the fact that attacks are more intense, frequent, unsuspecting, and very difficult to stop. Compared to conventional or traditional bullying, cyber bullies are not restrained at all with time, space and pace. This means
