School Uniforms Mandatory Kenyatta Rena Chambers Ashford University ENG 122 English Composition II Professor Rosalinda Ortiz Jul 14, 2014 Uniforms in public school should be mandatory. It would stop the bullying, and all the violence Uniforms will help in the child throughout their childhood life’s, and will make them make good, and be a positive role model to different children in their community. Uniforms are one step that may help break the cycle of violence. Enforcing uniforms will help them see the main reason why they are at school to learn, and get an education. According to King’s article, Should School Uniforms be Mandated in Elementary Schools, “approximately one in four students reports worrying about becoming a victim of crime or threats at school, and one in eight reports actually having been victimized while at school” (p 1). “Are School Uniform Helping or Hindering?”(Today Parents) According to the writer the arguments for school uniforms, and the hindering of wearing the uniforms it talks about the pros, and the cons of why students should be mandatory to wear these uniforms. Having kids wear uniforms will reduce bullying because kids won’t pick on each other for how they’re dressed, she said, and in urban settings, gang affiliation through dress will go down as well. The uniforms also reduce distractions. (Borba, 2013) “When you walk into school, let’s be dressed for success and be prepared to learn.”(Borba, 2013) “It gets down to, ‘let’s focus on the thing we’re supposed to be doing, called learning.”( Borba, 2013). In an environment that is not safe like many schools the teachers cannot teach the kids in their class to the maximum potential nor can students learn to their fullest. In unsafe environments, like many schools across the nation, teachers cannot teach to their maximum potential nor can students learn to their fullest
