Introduction Schizophrenia is one of the most common metal illnesses. 1 in a 100 people is affected by schizophrenia which is found is found throughout the world and with different cultures. Schizophrenia can be found in men and women equally. (Statistic from Brain Facts, Society for Neuroscience, 2002). Schizophrenia is referred to having a split personality this is true because people with schizophrenia are so called split off from reality. People with schizophrenia may have delusions or hallucinations which seems scary however they are not dangerous people. Another way that the bauture nurture debate is trying to be resolved is using bothe family and adoption studies.tienari et al study looked at164 finish adoptees that had biological mothers with schizophrenia it was found that 11 of the 164 were also diagnosed with schizophrenia compared to 4 of the 197 control adoptees who did not have biological mothers with schizophrenia. Medicines have advanced so much there is treatments. Voluntary and compulsory detention treatment can help reduce the symptoms; this would provide the patient with relief. There are also several therapies that can be tried out. E,g family therapy and art therapy. There is also a treatment of cognitive behavioural therapy. This is a talking therapy that can help you manage a schizophrenic patient problems by changing the way they think and behave.CBT cannot remove the problems, but can help them manage them in a more positive way. It encourages them to examine how their actions can affect how they think and feel. Also an Antipsychotics can be given this is to reduce the amount of dopamine in the brain. There are also community programmes and mental health teams to help schizophrenic patients. preventing
